I have worked in both KS2 and KS1 as class teacher and am also English Leader in KS1. For the last 5 years, I have been teaching in Y2, which gave me plenty of ‘SATs experience’. However, I have been trying to ensure that the skills children need to apply in their SATs are linked to everyday life experiences and have applied them as much as I could to our topics, in order to avoid 'teaching to the test'. I really value your feedback on my resources. Happy browsing!

UEFA EURO 2024 Germany - 7 Activities - Maths, English, Geography

(0)
Here some resources I made for my class for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany. This pack includes: A two pages long information sheet with facts about the past, this year’s games and the mascot. This could be used for research (individually or whole class) when making posters/leaflets etc. A 4 pages long comprehension based on the fact sheet. The text is on the top half of the sheet and questions are below for children to answer. It is differentiated in a higher and a lower comprehension - one with mostly retrieval and one with retrieval and some inference questions. A geography worksheet for mapping countries in Europe that take part. Children can choose 12 countries, find them on the map and make a key. If you wanted to differentiate it, you could print it out twice and fill in the key for one already. I would recommend copying the map on A3 paper to make it easier for children. Maths sheet on bar charts: Children read the table of who was in the final in the past and what their results were and make a bar chart of how many goals were scored in each final throughout the years and answer some challenge questions about it. Differentiated - one is more scaffolded and the bar chart has been prepared, the other needs children to label their own bar chart (differentiated in bar charts going up in 1s, 2s, 5s). There is also another sheet where children choose 5 countries and represent in a bar chart how many times each country has participated in the final. Maths activity on finding all possibilities: Differentiated three ways. Children have the task of designing a new football kit for their favourite country and have to choose three (four) colours. They then find all possible ways of putting a new kit consisting of either shorts and t-shirt or shorts, t-shirt and socks together for their chosen colours. This activity comes with a notebook file to model. This is an activity based on the flags of the participating countries in the EURO 2024 in Germany. There is one sheet with all the names of the countries and their flags which is followed by 4 activity sheets: Comparing two flags. Children choose two flags, draw them and compare them - what is the same and what is different. Sorting the flags into symmetrical and non-symmetrical. A blank Venn diagram for children to make up their own categories to sort the flags into (if you want to differentiate you could give them the categories). A blank Carroll diagram for children to make up their own categories to sort the shapes into (if you want to differentiate you could give them the categories). Maths - Adding several numbers (single digit, multiples of 10/100 and adding several two-digit numbers - differentiated) using several top UEFA EURO ‘24 footballers’ names printed on the sheet. Enjoy!

Back to School Activity - (Summer) Holiday Selfies/Snapshots

This is an activity which I would suggest to use in KS1 as a first week activity when coming back to school in September. SHEET ONE There are four empty polaroids for children to draw in and lines beside them to describe their holiday/write a sentence. It is differentiated by scaffolding and outcome. Some children are more able to write about what happened without any guidance whereas others might need more structure eg first polaroid is 'who I saw', second polaroid is about 'games I played'... etc and soe others might just need to draw/label/talk about their holidays so there are different sheets for different groups. It works best copied and blown up to A3. SHEET TWO. Same as sheet one except for this time round all polaroids are selfies - phone/iPad outline. It is also a nice thing to display in your classroom in those first few weeks when topics have not yet started etc. Includes 2 differentiated worksheets plus two screenshots for you to see what sheets look like. Thank you.

Harvest Comprehension based on song Cauliflowers Fluffy (Paintbox)

(1)
This is a brilliant comprehension to use in English when talking about harvest as it links to RE. I would recommend it for year 2 and up. It is based on the song Cauliflowers Fluffy which you can find here on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRQEQgyGAGA Here are four differentiated sheets with the lyrics of the songs and questions underneath. Extended level: Retrieval and higher order thinking questions (Why, What does it mean..., Which word tells you that...) Core: Focused more on simple retrieval from the text. Lower Core: Simple retrieval from the text but scaffolded multiple choice for half of the questions. Nurture, SEN, EAL: Using the song and text children read for mening and find colour and adjective used to describe the fruit/veg and draw the harvest basket. PLEASE NOTE: This is only one resource. I also sell a pack of 3 Harvest resources (this one included) for £3.99 - search for 'Harvest Activities' by JennyGodfrey. THANK YOU.

Brazil Related Comprehension Skills - Inference, Language, Question words

(0)
I made these sheets for my year 2 class to work on in mixed ability pairs. I think it would work with year 3 and 4 and possibly with high level year 1 children as well. Please note they are not differentiated! It worked very well though, I got them talking together in groups of 2. The skills practised are the following: - Question words: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking carefully about what kind of answer the question word asks for. It is done in two parts - one where they have to read a question and discuss what kind of thing they are looking for in the answer eg a place, a person etc. The second part has questions and possible answers, all multiple choice. There is no text but children have to work out from the question word which answer is correct by identifying if the question asks for a time, place, reason etc. - Inference: Looking at the clues in the text and using them to make sense of what happened - Language: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking about language choices, understanding words, picking out synonyms etc.

Brazil Information Book, SATs style Comprehension, Board Game & Poster Activity - Prep for Olympics

(0)
This resource was made with year 2 in mind but is really suitable for infants and lower juniors. It consists of four parts: INFORMATION BOOK Children can do their own research using this 16 page long information book that I created about Brazil. It is attached in two formats: pdf and word doc so it can be edited. The contents of the book are as follows: 1. Country - Where is it? - What is the land like? - Rivers and Waterfalls - Cities - Weather 2. Sports - Football - Formula 1 - Volleyball - Pele 3. Olympic Games Rio 2016 - Olympic Games - Paralympic Games 4. Carnival 5. The Rainforest - What is the Rainforest - What do we get from the Rainforest? - Sad Fact! - What are the layers of the Rainforest? 6. Glossary COMPREHENSION SATs style comprehension based on the information book. It is differentiated for WT (Working towards), E (expected) and WAGD (Working at greater depth). BOARD GAME A board game where children can play in partners. It helps them recall facts learnt from the booklet about Brazil eg about the rainforest, weather, Olympics etc. POSTER ACTIVITY Children work in groups of three and create a poster about Brazil using the information book as starting point. They have the attached sheet as their success criteria which reinforces what needs to go on a poster (heading, sub-heading, facts, pictures, etc). They work together as team (criteria for that on sheet as well) and present the information using their neatest presentation skills. Can be differentiated by giving different children different roles eg scribe, researcher, illustrator... Teacher can then go around and in good old competition style give children stickers/points for each bit of the success criteria they have met. Winning team is the team that has the most stichers/points. I gave out stickers/points for each sub-heading and paragraph of information. My class loved it. Took them all morning and they were so engaged they wouldn't even want to go out for play! :)

This is quite a fun activity for English lessons or Guided Reading lessons where children have to come up with a caption for a picture and then draw a picture for a given caption using inference skills and thinking about what might have happened. There are 14 worksheets and my class really loved it as well as a notebook to introduce the activity.
