French: The subjunctive in a nutshell - Part 2: regular '-ir' verbs with importance and desire

(0)
Here is the second installment of the subjunctive. As you know, mastering the subjunctive is tricky business and it is more geared towards A-Level French. This activity basically describes more functions of the subjunctive in a nutshell in terms of importance and desire and it contains step by step methods as to how to form it. Part 2 solely focuses on how to form regular ‘-ir’ verbs in the subjunctive mood. Accompanied with this resource, is a unique workbook, in which the expressions using expressions of importance and desire are incorporated in the form of a cartoon story where the students search for the expressions used. Before reading the story, I would recommend teaching the vocabulary in the powerpoint and get students to write out sample sentences. There are also subsequent activities, very similar to the ones in the powerpoint. Parts 3-12 of the subjunctive are also available on my online shop, however I still have yet to modify the resources and install the workbooks for parts 4-12. The powerpoint lesson in these parts are only available at the moment. Keep an eye out for the sequels to the other functions of the subjunctive. I still have to put them up. Happy teaching and learning!

French for Adults: Advanced:Part 1: Subjunctive (avoir & être) in the theme of Jeanne Louise Calment

Welcome to the first installment of the advanced series for adults who are studying French, published by Palmer Language Services. At this level, students are beginning to adopt a more independent approach in their studies and tend to evade from the use of their mother-tongue language influence, thus the use of extracting material from texts. This resource extensively explores the unique life and story of Jeanne Louise Calment who lived to an incredible age of 122 years and 164 days and she was only verified human being to have lived to such an age. She also outlived both her daughter and grandson by several decades. The introduction of the subjunctive, using the verbs ‘avoir’ and ‘être’ are also incorporated in this activity, in addition to using them as auxiliary verbs when the perfect subjunctive is formed. Initially, before reading the text, students should be asked in French if they have any knowledge about Jeanne Calment and if so, what do they know about her. Students should then read the text out loud and then complete the subsequent activities which follow. This resource also incorporates all four key skills such as listening, reading, writing and speaking, in addition to an array of grammar activities. The good news is that you don’t have any particular need to make any preparatory planning, prior to teaching this topic as all the material contained is self-explanatory, which will enable the students to think for themselves. The contents of this resource are as follows: The worksheet activities Sound file for the listening activity The transcript for the listening activity Happy teaching and learning!

These resources are designed for Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2 {P1 - P3 in Northern Ireland} learners, however they can be used for Key Stage 2 {P4 - P7 in Northern Ireland} learners who are learning Mandarin for the very first time.
