My name is Christopher Palmer and I am a languages practitioner. I am now in my sixteenth year of teacher and I have a wealth of experience of liaising with the standard EdExcel GCSE French, Cambridge International GCSE French, EdExcel A-Level French, beginner's Mandarin courses and I am starting to become acquainted with IB French. I have published a vast array of resources which span Key Stage 2-5.

Welcome to Stage 4: The Pluperfect Tense
Well done on mastering Stage 3: The Imperfect tense! As I have outlined in all the stages for mastering the tenses in French, I have designed each stage which deals with the necessary tenses and stage 4 is the pluperfect tense. I cover a wide range of verbs that I deem necessary in one's learning of the language. Not only have I made a huge bundle which consists of over 50 verbs in the pluperfect tense, but the conjugation workbook is also included, which is required from Key stage 4 onwards or whether adults are learning it for the very first time. This bundle will be useful for either teaching the tenses for the first time or revision. Normally I sell each part for £3 each and the workbook for £5, but for £17.50 (which would normally be £29 for all 9 items!), you will have the following:
Part 1: Primary irregular -ir verbs: Aller, Avoir, Boire, Croire, Etre, Faire, Ouvrir, Prendre
Part 2: Regular -er verbs: Arriver, Entrer, Essayer, Manger, Parler, Partager, Porter, Regarder
Part 3: Regular -ir verbs: Bleuir, Choisir, Finir, Grandir, Ralentir, Refroidir, Rougir
Part 4: Regular -re verbs: Attendre, Perdre, Rendre, Vendre, Descendre, Entendre, Repondre
Part 5: Irregular -re verbs: Dire, Ecrire, Lire, Mettre, Suivre, Connaitre
Part 6: Irregular -ir verbs: Devoir, Pouvoir, Savoir, , Voir, Vouloir
Part 7: More irregular -ir verbs and intransitive verbs: Partir, Sortir, Tenir, Venir, Mourir
Part 8: Impersonal verbs and reflexive verbs: Falloir, Pleuvoir, S'agir, ,Valoir, Se laver, Se servir de, Se souvenir
Stage 4: The imperfect tense workbook
Once again, for all 9 items this is incredibly great value which is a big reduction from £29 down to £17.50!
Do take advantage of this offer and I wish you very happy teaching and learning!
This activity explicitly gives instructions on how to form the immediate future tense, step by step form. This activity is useful for students studying French at Key Stage 3 and GCSE/IGCSE level. It also provides follow up activities with progressively difficult levels.
Happy teaching and learning!
Answers to the test of 'Stage 3-9: The imperfect tense'.
My advice is as follows:
32-40 correct answers: Very well done! There is a more advanced test available titled as 'Stage 3-9a: Higher level test of the imperfect tense'. Try this before attempting the 'Stage 4: The pluperfect tense' activity.
0-31 correct answers: I am sorry but you have failed the test. Please re-try this test before attempting the more advanced test.
Here is a powerpoint which introduces the imperfect tense in French. The imperfect tense has many different functions and part 1 explicitly details habitual actions which occur in the past followed by interactive activities.

Here is a useful resource which explains the concept of 'etre en train de faire quelque chose'. It starts off with some examples which fundamentally explains its significance, followed by games and drill practice. There are also some translation which students could do upon completion of practising the concept. This concept is geared towards IGCSE and A-Level French.
Happy teaching and learning!
Welcome to Stage 6-5!
The purpose of this powerpoint is to become deeply acquainted with the formation of tenses and verbs, especially for those who have difficulties in doing so. This is a very good way of introducing the conjugation either when teaching it for the very first time or revision. This is the 45th stage of the learning process and there are 72 stages in the entire process. By the end of the 72nd stage, learners will have a developed a very profound mastery of not only forming nine different tenses which range with complexity upon progression, but also, an exhaustive range of different verbs which have been very carefully divided stage by stage. Upon completion of Stage 9-8, the final stage of the process, will immensely prepare students to pursue with their French studies at university level, where they will inevitably be using tenses. It is also suitable for adult learners, again whether they are learning it for the first time or revision.
This folder contains the following irregular '-re' verbs in the conditional tense:
Dire
Lire
Ecrire
Mettre
Connaitre
Craindre
Suivre
Inclure
When showing each slide, there is an audio clip on each new item that you can click on and you will hear my voice which demonstrates the pronunciation of each item, or alternatively, you can lead the pronunciation of each item. It is up to you! The learners will then reiterate the new items every time they see the slide 'This time you try it!' You will be very surprised to see how it will stick in their minds!!
I would strongly encourage you to purchase the follow-up activity 'French: Stage 6: The conditional tense', which enables students to manually complete the drills based on what they have learnt. They are £5. Upon completion of Stage 6-8, there are tests also available.
Happy teaching and learning and the very best of luck!!

Here is a puzzle which has strong links with the GCSE/IGCSE French curriculum and it focuses on vocabulary and grammar at the train station. There are twenty differences to find and it is ideal to give your students this as a warm-up activity at the beginning of the lesson, recapping on previously learnt vocabulary or if they are learning vocabulary for the first time, try and get them to distinguish what some of the vocabulary means without having to use a dictionary.
The answers are displayed on the slides which follow.

This resource looks at phrases which use the verb 'avoir' as opposed to 'etre'. The presentation of this concept has been composed in the form of a story about an eleven year-old girl who has recently moved to France and she doesn't speak French that well, resulting her in frequently using phrases that should use 'avoir', forms them with 'etre' instead. It is a very good story with a follow up quiz of the story.
This resource is geared towards students at IGCSE level.
