As a qualified teacher of the English Language and Literature of 11 years, I have predominantly taught in both British curriculum and Singapore-Cambridge curriculum schools. Working both locally and abroad has given me the challenge of working with high-ability students who aspire to top universities to low-ability students who needed personal attention to get a minimum of a ‘C’ grade from all year groups in Secondary. In addition, I have also had the opportunity to teach both native speakers of English and those who speak English as a second or even a third language. In each new environment, I aim to learn a bit of the local language to give confidence to the students when learning a new language through modelling and to understand their difficulties in learning English from their perspective such as the differences in sentence construction between English and their mother tongues.
