Revision clocks to guide revision for students revising the Edexcel 9-1 American West Unit. They cover the whole period and bring thoughts together in a thematic way. My lower ability pupils found them very useful to start their revision.
This card sort is designed to give students an overview of the course. I have used this resource successfully with a range of ability groups.
Lower Ability Card Sort uses different fonts to break down the crime, punishment, law enforcement method and context in each time period.
Ideas:
A
Students to decide which time periods are which colour and to build a rough timeline.
Within each time period, students should sort the cards into crimes, punishments and law enforcement methods.
Students could pull out changes and continuities across the periods
B
Students to use it as a checklist.
C
Students to make links between different cards e.g. as a thinking quilt.
A lesson that looks at the major factors encouraging ranching on the Plains. The lesson includes a clip from Timelines TV and numerous information sheets about the different factors which can then be put on to a timeline (provided). There is also an exam question, with structure and mark scheme.
I created this powerpoint to deliver a walking talking mock - style session.
There are examples of student responses for each Q as well as slides on structure etc and how to approach each Q.
We didn’t have exam desks set up in the hall so I asked students to complete small tasks instead of writing out the whole Q, although could be used for a formal walking talking mock if these slides are ignored.
Based on Edexcel 9-1 History
I produced this booklet when I was running out of time with my year 11s, it allowed them to complete a large proportion of the Whitechapel element of Paper 1 as flipped learning and meant that we could focus on Exam structure and technique in lessons.

This range of lessons was put together based on pre-2016 textbooks. Both the SHP and Edexcel textbooks were used. However, the lessons are targeted towards the new GCSE and so the exam questions and worksheets are relevant to any new textbook being used.
