These English Christmas Numbers 0-31 task cards are perfect for beginner English and advanced beginner English anguage learners, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found lesson around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practicing language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in English numbers in particular.
The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of English - they are definitely aimed at advanced beginner English and students moving into intermediate English, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real UK-Christmas theme, such as mince pies and Christmas crackers, and vocabulary is repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves with it. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have several opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson.
The resource comprises the following:
36 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
answer recording sheet we often also just use our class workbooks for this, as it saves on paper and prep time - I tend to use recording sheets for more formal assessment exercises
answer key laminate for longevity - one answer key for each small group is sufficient - for me, answer keys are an integral element of this kind of learning activity, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, and to develop more independence in their learning.
question card template for students to apply their knowledge practically, and to create questions for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity

The vocabulary groups are as follows:
Begrüßungen : Farben : Körper / Körperteile (singular & plural) : Zahlen 21-40 : Wetter : Deutsch im Klassenzimmer : Fragen und Antworten
The cards are really versatile, and the set includes descriptions of a range of games and activities that students can try in German class. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical German-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The recall and write challenges help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in German. My students use their recall workbooks several times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum.
There are three written recall challenges in the workbook:
= Challenge 1 students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
= Challenge 2 with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category
= Challenge 3 the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages
= Meine Notizen und Neuer Wortschatz encourages students to reflect on their learning and to note any new vocabulary they may learn
Laminate the game cards if you can as they’re more learner-friendly, and they will remain in excellent conditional for years.

GCSE FRENCH ER VERBS CONDITIONAL TENSE FOCUSING ON 25 HIGH-FREQUENCY FRENCH -ER VERBS This kind of grammar activity is really popular with my students - they like to work independently, practising and revising how to conjugate French verbs, and it’s a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are***150 conjugation questions across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges***, with an answer key booklet. I always give my students an answer key with this kind of workbook, as it facilitates independent learning, and they genuinely enjoy self and peer-assessment. Having an answer key also gives them an additional opportunity to engage with language and grammar.
The format is as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of French conjugation works, reflect on what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. They also use this page to note any new verbs they learn, which helps them build up a comprehensive verb vocabulary. It’s also a useful tool to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really popular activity with my students.

ALEVEL FRENCH CONDITIONAL PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency French verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys & verbs lists ideal for***A Level French*** students who are working with more complex language and texts, including a wide range of authentic resources, and developing their knowledge and understanding of tense and mood in French. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom
The workbook focuses on formation and conjugation, rather than usage, though it’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. Language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language, with the grammar of the language they are learning. Students whose first language is English often look for a direct equivalent of would, similar to when they first meet the conditional tense for example, or they may use***avoir*** instead of être for verbs which require être as the auxiliary. Students do need to to have a good grasp of the auxiliary verbs être and avoir in the conditional tense , as well as the patterns for forming the relevant past participles, in order to ensure that they can form the conditional perfect tense accurately.
The resource has the following structure:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French.

Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills.

I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for advanced beginner French students who are getting to grips with conjugation in French, and building their verb vocabulary. The workbooks focus on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I’ve found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well.
The resource is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills.
