Parole Intrecciate Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Italian, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set is aimed at beginner Italian students of all ages, focusing on I mese e le stagioni dell’anno. The target vocabulary also includes words such as il mese scorso and la prossima stagione to enable students to engage with gender agreement. Additionally, ordinal numbers primo, ultimo, secondo and so on, provide an additional language learning opportunity, and to increase the challenge in a number of grids. Students have to apply their broader knowledge of Italian in order to know which word to search for in the grid, for example ***il terzo mese dell’anno?***. This makes the activity more comprehensive and engaging than a straightforward months and seasons of the year in Italian vocabulary exercise.
The set features 10 differentiated word searches, with an increasing level of challenge. Grids 1-5 feature Italian prompts and Italian responses in the grid. Students also complete a list of corresponding translations in English for additional consolidation. Grids 6 & 7 feature questions in Italian such as gennaio : il mese prossimo? and students have to work out that they are seeking febbraio in the grid. Grids 8-10 feature English prompts, with students looking for the corresponding Italian word in the grid, and also writing the Italian word in the vocabulary list.
Each grid is in landscape format, and has an accompanying answer key so that students can check their own responses. There is an accompanying Italian-English vocabulary list which features all the vocabulary used in the word searches.
This kind of activity is really versatile, and useful in a range of learning contexts: starters, refreshers, finishers. fun-time fillers or sub / cover lessons at any time during the school year, as well as during the period where this is the current language focus. Students benefit from revisiting the word searches over several weeks until they are absolutely confident with the range of vocabulary.

Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in German, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 30 German Christmas words, which will also help to develop students’ awareness of some German-speaking countries Christmas traditions and figures, such as Sankt Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. The vocabulary is really useful for stimulating discussion about German Christmas practices and customs. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow. The vocabulary list features the definite article, though some grids also have the indefinite article / plurals for additional challenge.
Grids 1-4 are German-German, where students are prompted with the German words, and look for them in German in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list to complete. Grids 5-8 are English-German, where the prompts are given in English, and students look for the German translation in the grid. They also write the German translation of the English word. Grids 9 and 10 prompt students with a specific Christmas image, and they look for the corresponding German word in the grid, also completing a German vocabulary list for additional consolidation.
There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers, or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches and answer keys are in portrait format, with arrows indicating in which direction the individual words are located.
There is an alphabetical German-English Christmas vocabulary list which students find really helpful. There are two formats: search grids and answer keys together, so that they can be printed out and copied double-sided, and search grids / answer keys as separate files.
The word searches are useful in a range of learning contexts - as starters, refreshers, finishers, fun-time fillers and for sub / cover lessons at any time during the Christmas / Holiday season.

Ideal for Primary French Immersion and beginner French students of all ages and stages, providing them with a great opportunity to engage with the written word in French, at the same time developing essential beginner French vocabulary. They are easily differentiated too: the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows.
There are 5 French to French grids, with an additional number vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling practice. I always create English to French grids too - that’s an effective way of consolidating vocabulary, and there’s a vocabulary list to complete too. Search grids and answer keys are in landscape format.
The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, cover lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year.

Mots cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches with answer keys, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 41 countries / territories where French is an official language.
The word searches help students develop their knowledge and awareness of the Francophone world, and just how widely it is spoken around the globe. I’ve used the definite article for the countries, so that students can see which countries are masculine, and which feminine, which in turn helps consolidate knowledge of gender in French.
Grids 1-4: students search for a particular country.
Grids 5 & 6: students search for a range of capital cities.
Grid 7: 16 capital cities as prompts, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid.
Grid 8: 16 countries, and students search for the corresponding capital cities in the grid.
Grids 9 & 10: a selection of national flags, students search for the corresponding countries in the grid, and also write the country name in the prompt box next to the individual flag.
There is a single grid per page, A4 (8.5 x 11) portrait format. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Each grid has a corresponding answer key, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. There is also a complete reference sheet of all countries, capital cities, continents and flags.
The word searches work well across the school year, not only when you’re focusing on les pays francophones. I use them as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers quite regularly - this really does help embed students’ learning, and they genuinely enjoy putting their memory to the test.

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES Sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 33 Spanish Christmas words, which I also use as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too.
There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, where students are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid.
There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning.
There’s a Spanish-English Christmas vocabulary reference sheet - you can either laminate this to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general reference resource. Students will have to look carefully at some of the words they’re looking for, as they may appear slightly differently - for example, they may have to find the gifts and work out what that is in Spanish - only the prompt the gift appears in the reference list.

Word searches are a great way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. These are ten differentiated word searches focusing on the days of the week in Spanish. My students really enjoy practising their vocabulary with word searches. They like to work independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups, challenging themselves (and each other!) to progress through the challenges.
Word searches are easily differentiated: there are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocab is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There’s a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they’re looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid. Each grid has a corresponding answer key. Search grids and answer keys are in landscape format.
I use the word searches regularly - as starters, refreshers, plenaries, fun-time fillers or activities for cover lessons, at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m introducing days of the week in Spanish.

It’s useful to introduce how to tell the time quite quickly with my beginner language learners, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, discussing daily routines for example.
There are two key questions:
Che ora è? (1 o’clock, 5 past one etc) / Che ore sono? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Vero o falso? and students write either vero or falso - where the answer is falso, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation.
Each set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 60 question cards, 10 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & recording sheet
Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. I print individual sets on different colour paper so that they can be identified and organised easily. To save prep time and expense, I generally distribute single pages of question cards, rather than cut out individual cards.

This French resource box is ideal for KS3 French, KS4 French and GCSE French revision. There are 5 resources, each for £2, featuring active, differentiated, multi-skill and independent learning activities. Some of the resources overlap learning stages, though I’ve found that students, regardless of ages, often benefit from, and genuinely enjoy, working with activities that are primarily designed for other ability or knowledge stages. This may be either as practice and revision, or as additional or more accessible and manageable challenge. These factors are all key to motivating learners to engage with, and progress in, a new language.
There’s certainly prep work involved with some of the resources – I always laminate my language and challenge cards for example, as they’re much more easy to manipulate, and so far more learner-friendly. They do however last in excellent condition for years, so for me, laminating is definitely worth the prep time and extra expense. You don’t have to prepare them all at once – the resources are definitely useful for the longer-term, so you can take your time with the prep, focusing on what you’re working with at any specific stage.
Over time, I’ve created activity folders with ready-made resources in, and give my students free-choice time – alone, in pairs or small groups. They decide what they’d like to work on for half an hour or so, and sometimes even a full lesson. We do this pretty regularly, as it’s great for keeping language fresh, and ideal for both consolidation and revision. Additionally, and equally importantly, it helps students develop independent learning skills, moving away from teacher-led learning, and gives them real insight into their own learning progress.
The workbooks, worksheets and word searches for example are good to go – simply print and photocopy.

They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in Italian in general, and certainly in***Italian dates, days, months and seasons*** in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on this particular vocabulary area, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how these words and phrases in Italian, but also to enjoy working with Italian, and to feel confident about doing so.
The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. There’s also a question card template for students to use language practically and creatively, and craft questions and answers for each other - this is a really popular activity with my students.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
Set of 48 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
answer recording sheet
answer key - laminate for longevity - one answer key for each small group is sufficient - students can assess their own or each others’ work, which helps develop independence in learning, and is also a great teacher time-saver!
4 question cards template for students to apply their knowledge practically, and to create questions for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity.

The questions have a***multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling***. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in,speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in German. Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible. It also gives them chance to apply language in a practical, real-world context, which in turn helps embed both vocab and grammatical concepts into longer-term memory. The questions are all in German, and range in complexity and challenge.
There are 37 vegetables addressed in the cards, and it’s unlikely that they are all in your teaching and learning plan. I always include additional vocabulary to add a little challenge, and to encourage students to think a little more creatively and independently. There’s an alphabetical German-English and English-German vegetables list with masculine and feminine vegetables, definite and indefinite article, and singular and plural. This really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts without explicit instruction. There are some translation questions too - both from German to English and English to German, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner learners. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity, which is definitely useful for them to know from the very beginning of their learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and grammatical concepts creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other, and I encourage them to use the existing questions as a frame of reference as they create their own.

I generally work with telling the time in German quite quickly with my beginner German students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, discussing daily routines for example.
There are two questions: Wie spät ist es / Wie viel Uhr ist es? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Richtig oder falsch and students write either richtig or falsch - where the answer is falsch, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 60 question cards, 10 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & recording sheet
Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
