French Numbers 0-100 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
They have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The translation questions are a great way of introducing beginner French learners to the concept of translation too.
The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on***French Numbers 0-100***, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French maths language, which students do not always engage with very often.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly and remain in excellent condition for years.
= answer key and recording sheet - I use recording sheets for more formal assessment purposes. My students all have class workbooks, and they use those to work out their answers, and to note them down, saving both prep time and paper.
French Numbers 0-100 Word Searches Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on French Numbers 0-100, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and French language skills in general.
Students are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in French. Hyphens are important in French numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practise this aspect of language.

Spanish-speaking countries Los países hispanohablantes presentation & quiz an instant and comprehensive introduction to 21 countries where Spanish is an official language, which really help my students develop their awareness of the Spanish-speaking world: countries, their location and capital cities and flags.
Each country is presented individually on a world map, so that students can see exactly where in the world it lies: this immediately gives a geographical context for students, whose knowledge of world geography may not encompass the Spanish-speaking or wider world. I also use this part of the presentation to work on pronunciation, encouraging students to repeat and read aloud with me - this really does help with memory too.
There are 186 slides in the resource, which is non-editable for copyright reasons.
Presentation Slides 1-22: title slide, followed by 21 slides showing the location on a world map of each of the 21 countries where Spanish is an official language. Each slide has the title ¿Dónde está…?
Presentation Slides 23-43: have the title ***Aquí se habla español ***and shows the flag, country and capital city of the individual countries
Question Slides 1-20: showing a flag, and asking for example ***¿Chile o Costa Rica?***, followed by an answer slide, with the country and its capital city.
Question Slides 21-40: also showing a flag, asking ***¿Dónde estoy?***, followed by an answer slide, with its country and capital city.
Question Slides 41-50: showing 2 flags, with the questions for example ***¿Chile A o B?***, followed by an answer slide, with both countries and capital cities.

PRIMARY FRENCH TARGET LANGUAGE POSTERS KS2 FRENCH TARGET LANGUAGE POSTERS KS3 FRENCH CLASSROOM LANGUAGE POSTERS YEAR 7 FRENCH TARGET LANGUAGE POSTERS @ £3.50 EACH IN THE BUNDLE
All files are non-editable in a zipped format. They are copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
French target language display posters creating an instant introduction to 40 commonly-used expressions in your French classroom. The posters also give the learning environment a fabulous French look and feel, promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your learners. They introduce learners to a range simple everyday language in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
The language is simple and effective, suitable for absolute beginners. I use the posters to promote use of the target language in contexts that we meet frequently and regularly, such as Asseyez-vous ! Levez la main ! and Qui a fini ? There are some greetings, such as Bonne journée ! and Bonjour tout le monde !
It’s important to build routines in the languages classroom, using only the target language, and avoiding translating everything orally when we speak to learners. It’s easy to develop conversational routines too, starting with greetings, and asking how people are - I generally do this with talk time, encouraging learners to ask each other how they are for example.
The posters do show the English translation, as I’ve found that this facilitates learner understanding initially, and certainly helps them feel more confident in the very early stages. I explain that the words do not necessarily match correctly, for example Quel jour sommes-nous ? literally means What day are we? but translating correctly means recreating meaning in the second language: in English, we ask What is the date today? This is really useful knowledge for both current and future learning. I also move the posters around a little in our first lesson, and give learners sheets with certain expressions in English, and they walk around looking for the corresponding expression in French, writing it down on their sheet - I’ve included one of these in each set. I’ve found this to be a really successful way of getting learners to write and spell correctly in French, again from the very beginning of their learning. I definitely focus a lot on pronunciation, emphasizing that words often do not sound how they look - accurate pronunciation needs a lot of practice, and the written word can actually confuse learners unless we work on pronunciation and producing the accurate sounds of words, and look closely at linking spelling with sound.
The expressions in Set 1 are:
Let’s speak French; Hello everyone; Goodbye everyone; How are you?; I’m very well thanks; Sit down please; Stand up please; Look please; Listen please; Repeat please; Everyone together; Once again; Put your hands up; Don’t shout out; Put your hands down; Quietly please; Stop please; Put your things away; Well done
The expressions in Set 2 are:
Do you understand?; Yes, I understand; A volunteer please; Let’s start please; Put your pencils down; Open your workbooks; Close your workbooks; Who has finished?; I have finished; Louder please; Have a good day; Have a good weekend; Sit in a circle; What is your name?; My name is…; What is the date today?; The date us…; More quickly; More slowly; Very good
There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or plain white to keep prep costs to a minimum, 80 posters in total. Laminate if possible; they will display really well, are far easier to manipulate as flashcards, and will remain in excellent condition for years.

French-speaking countries, capital cities and flags game cards provide great cross-curricular learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year. Students can develop their language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the French-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The set features 41 countries / territories where French is an official language, with each picture card showing the continent and national flag, and the corresponding text card detailing continent, country and capital city. There is a set of detachable continent, country and capital city labels. Labelling is a really successful and popular learning activity.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too.
There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capital cities, including the continent on which each is located. Students find it useful to read this through before playing I generally allow them only 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and increase the sense of competition if we are playing competitive team games. I’ve described a range of popular games and activities in the product pack.
The list can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning files. Laminate the cards and reference sheets if you can - it’s really worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. Play regularly for maximum learning potential.

Ideal for cross-curricular learning French and geography featuring 41 countries / territories where French is an official language as well as regions and territories where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Vietnam. Each word wall card shows the country and capital city in French, and its national flag.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of the French-speaking world. This means we can really make the most of the learning potential of classroom decor. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too.
I use the word wall to get students talking in French class too during Talk Time for example - quick questions such as Vrai ou faux ? Québec est la capitale du Canada ? or Libreville est la capitale de quel pays ? are really useful to encouraging students to speak in French.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format, with two design formats to choose from - French flag or plain. Laminate the cards if you can, as they display really nicely, and remain in excellent condition for years.

42 posters / flashcards featuring 24 Spanish-speaking countries with the countries, capital cities and flags, in Spanish.
I’ve found having the posters in my classroom provides an instant introduction to the Spanish-speaking world. They’re also great for reading, speaking and pronunciation prompts too. I often ask ‘quick questions’ such as ***¿Cuál es la capital de…?***, or ¿Sí o no? Madrid es la capital de Paraguay? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the posters as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill, particularly for beginner Spanish learners, so getting the most from classroom decor to encourage students to speak is really important - they’re a great tool for encouraging students to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their Spanish learning.
I’ve also found that there can be several (or more!) countries that students don’t actually know, or have never heard of, and the posters are really useful for helping them develop their general understanding and knowledge of the wider world.
There are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish flag or black wave. Laminate them if you can, as they hang really well, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years.

A great way of getting your students talking without feeling ‘on the spot’, or worried about not getting their pronunciation and accent right in front of the whole class. The Q&A prompt cards offer structured talk opportunities, and focus on vocabulary, structures and general knowledge that they are likely to meet in both the beginning and more intermediate stages of their English learning.
My students apply their developing English knowledge creatively and practically by crafting their own questions and answers, using the prompts as speaking frames. With focused and frequent practice, they begin to feel more confident about their language skills, using the Notes and Next Steps pages in the reference book to jot down their ideas. We also use the pages to note how they think their skills are developing, and how well they are beginning to understand fully both the range of vocabulary and grammatical concepts.
The language in this set is ideal for advanced beginner English students moving into intermediate English, and feature a range of differentiated questions and answers, addressing various aspects of English, such as forming questions, the use of the present and present continuous tenses, word order and so on. This is really important for language learners, who often attempt to impose the grammar and structures of their first language onto the new language they are learning. There’s definitely a cultural and general information flavor to many of the questions, such as What is the London Eye? and How many countries are there in the United Kingdom?

GERMAN PHONICS KS3 GERMAN PHONICS KS4 GERMAN PHONICS GERMAN PRONUNCIATION PRACTICE - TWO SETS OF 99 GERMAN WORD CARDS FOCUSING ON PHONICS, SOUNDS, SPELLING AND RHYMES WITH WHOLE-GROUP PRONUNCIATION PRESENTATIONS @ £3.50 EACH IN THE BUNDLE

There are 198 cards featuring a range of sounds in German, and a whole-group presentation and practice activity. Revisit the activities frequently to help students develop phonetic awareness and a thorough understanding of how German spelling and sounds work. Students are quickly able to recognize sound patterns, enabling them to predict the pronunciation of new words more accurately. The whole-group presentations are non-editable for copyright reasons, but move forward via a click as a slide show, with all the rhymes and corresponding sounds grouped together. This is also useful for starter and finisher activities throughout the school year.
Encourage students to look carefully at all parts of a particular word, not just the focus sound: for example Hochhaus - the focus sound is au, but the ch sound is equally important. The resource works well for my German students at all stages of learning, from beginner to advanced. We use the card template for students to add corresponding sounds/rhymes that they know, or learn, over time. Allocate 10-15 minutes frequently to focus on pronunciation and sounds - this really does help students develop authentic German pronunciation.
Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely quite a bit of prep, but it’s well worth it in the longer-term - they are far more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. There is also a set without background to save prep costs.

An instant introduction to 25 fruits and 25 vegetables in French. I like to share essential beginner French vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their French learning programme. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
We use the set not only when we’re introducing and practising French fruits and vegetables, but also for developing French language skills and awareness in general. Students are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. I don’t actually introduce 25 vegetables at once, but in my classroom decor, I generally have additional language to maximize students’ exposure to related vocabulary.
The fruits are:
green apples : red apple : bananas : cherries : dates : fig : green grapes : red grapes : kiwi : lemon : mango : nectarine : olives : oranges : papaya : peach : pear : pineapple : pumpkin : raspberry : red currants : rhubarb : star fruit : strawberries : watermelon
The vegetables are:
artichoke : asparagus : beetroot : broccoli : cabbage : carrots : cauliflower : celery : sweetcorn : cucumber : eggplants / aubergines : French / green beans : garlic : leeks : lettuce : mushrooms : onions : peas : red peppers : yellow pepper : potatoes : sprouts : spinach : sweet potatoes : tomato
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two design formats to choose from - French flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum, so 100 flashcards / posters in total. I always print on card stock and / or laminate my flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, and remain in excellent condition for years.

PRIMARY FRENCH YEAR 7 FRENCH FRANCE COUNTRY FACTS & ACTIVITIES 2 SETS @ £3.50 EACH eight topics areas: arts & culture; country/society; famous people; food; geography; history; landmarks and language
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. They may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
The range of activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment for young beginner French students, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led ’information about France’ lessons. Students can develop their knowledge of the francophone and French-speaking world - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of introducing cross-curricular learning in your world languages classroom, aligning language learning with other areas of the curriculum, such as geography, history, and developing literacy skills in both French and English.
The bundle comprises the following non-editable files:
40 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups: geography; arts & culture; country/society; famous people; history; landmarks; language and food. There are four cards per 8.5x11 (A4) sheet. The language on each of the cards ranges from fairly basic to more advanced, which challenges and enhances children’s English reading comprehension skills. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other. This is a really successful way of building knowledge and learning together. As their knowledge and understanding of the French-speaking world grows, children should add to their facts cards, which eventually builds up into a fabulous facts bank, which they can use the entire school year, and beyond.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. Encourage children to be as accurate as possible with their spelling and punctuation, to pay particular attention to the spelling and accents of the French words that are included, and of course to make sure they are recording the facts in their best handwriting
Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. Encourage children to look for lateral information, such as the existence of other countries where French is spoken, and to think about the continent where those countries are located.
48 question / comprehension cards - the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There are some independent research questions, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about France. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning.
question / comprehension cards recording sheets: the recording sheet has four boxes per page. I encourage children to write their answer in full sentences, and to give as much relevant information as they can. They can also give more detailed responses than they can learn from the cards, engaging in further independent research. I like to combine this activity where possible with organised visits to the school library to gather relevant titles on France and La Francophonie, and do allow children to access pre-vetted websites.
2 x whole-group facts presentation & discussion - I’ve found this a really useful means of encouraging and stimulating classroom discussion. Children can reflect on what they may already know about France, and share it with their peers. Use the facts themselves to prompt discussion about the home / host country, for example “What is our capital city? Is it also our largest city?”, which really does create a successful cross-curricular learning environment.
The activities work really well across a series of lessons, rather than a single lesson. Print, laminate and cut out the cards - laminating is certainly worth the prep time, as the cards will last for many years. You can either give each small group of children a complete set of cards to choose from, or any particular number you think is appropriate. Decide how long you want the reading and writing activity to last for, and tell children how many cards you would like them to work with. This is quite a basic way of differentiating the activity. Children can then select random cards from their bowl. You can also select particular cards yourself if you prefer to differentiate by content, seating plan or learning groups for example.
Print out an appropriate number of recording sheets - you can also differentiate by quantity - for example, if you want to challenge children to complete 8 fact recording boxes or question / comprehension cards in a given time, it’s best to print the sheets double-sided. Choose which challenge level is more appropriate for each child, and whether they will feel more comfortable with two or four recording boxes per sheet. Over time, ensure that all children are given opportunity to complete Challenge Level Two - I’ve found that most children are more than able to make significant progress with their literacy across a period of time, and engage happily (and realistically) with Challenge Level Two. Remember to tell children how much time they have to complete their activity. The question/task cards and accompanying recording sheet are a really popular activity too, with a slightly different approach to reflecting on and applying knowledge. Children do like to discuss their favourite fact and what other things they might like to discover about France and the French-speaking world, so do given them the opportunity to do so over the school year. They should ideally stick the recording sheets into their workbooks, or keep carefully in their learning files or folders as both a reference resource and a record of learning, both for themselves and for you - it’s a great way of monitoring progress and assessing learning.

BACK TO SCHOOL ICE-BREAKERS FACTS ABOUT LANGUAGES TWO SET OF 36 FACTS CARDS @ £3.50 EACH
The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
The facts focus on world languages, and is a great whole-group learning activity at any time of the school year. They’re particularly useful as***ice-breakers in the back-to-school phase***, as it’s a very social activity, and really gets students up from their desks, walking around talking to each other. The information addresses a very wide range of languages topics, from world history, history of language, varied fields within linguistics to global languages facts for example.
The cards are designed for older students, as the facts do require a certain level of world knowledge and language awareness, and particularly world geography. I always screen a world map first, pointing out continents, countries, regions and territories and so on, because using the cards is also a great way of actually learning about the world, its history, shifting geographical and political borders, migrating populations and so on.
I use the cards in various ways: for example, a really popular method is the walk and talk activity, where students take a card each, walk around the classroom, exchanging facts - when they’ve shared the information on their card, students swap cards, and carry on walking — in this way, they encounter the same facts a couple of times, which really embeds knowledge. I tend to do this activity several times across the school year, following it up with an informal whole-group quiz, particularly when I feel that students need a break from more formal learning.
I also use the cards as either entrance or exit cards - again, followed by a quick quiz at several points in the year - simply turn the language on the individual cards into a question format. This works really well when students quiz each other, which moves them away from teacher-led learning towards more independent and social learning.
