GERMAN CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES PRIMARY GERMAN CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS2 GERMAN CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS3 GERMAN CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared, or distributed in any way outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. There are 33 German Christmas words, including a selection of more generic Christmas words, and also some which are very German-specific, such as Sankt Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. Students shouldn’t attempt to learn all the vocabulary at once, as the objective of the word searches is to engage with German Christmas vocabulary, to really focus on the individual words, genders and articles, and to have lots of practice at general recall, writing and spelling. The German Christmas vocabulary list is ideal as a long-term reference resource, and really useful for students when they are working more creatively and independently, for example***German Christmas reading comprehension, German Christmas writing activities*** and so on. There is an increasing challenge through the grids, and the differentiation does ensure that all students are challenged. There are 5 German to German grids, with a vocabulary list to complete for additional consolidation. There are also 5 English to German grids, also with a vocabulary list to complete, which is a great way to really work on students’ recall and spelling. Students can identify the level of challenge by the increasing size of the grid, number of words to search for, and the direction the words appear in, which they can see by the direction of the arrows at the top of the grids. I’ve put a couple of extra challenges in too, to encourage students to look really carefully at the words - for example, they may have to find candles and work out what that is in German - only the prompt die Adventskerze appears in the reference list. Answer keys are a great teacher-time saver and also give students an additional opportunity to engage with language, helping them develop more independence in their learning. Laminate the answer keys, and distribute amongst small groups of students during classtime - they will remain in excellent condition for years. Ideal for***beginner German*** students, helping them to familiarize themselves with the concept of conjugation in German, and to engage with German personal pronouns. The word searches are great for independent learning. Haben and sein are key German verbs, and it’s a good idea to introduce them to students as soon as possible, so that they can begin to build and create their own sentences from a very early stage in their learning. Each grid is in landscape format, 8.5 x 11 cm (A4). The grids increase in challenge, and students can see which direction the words are in by the arrow key. There are 5 German to German grids, where they are prompted with the German verb, and look for it in the grid. For additional consolidation, there’s an English verb list to complete. There are also 5 English to German grids, where the prompt is in English, and they look for the equivalent in German in the grid. They also have to complete a German verb list. There is an answer key for each word search, giving students an additional opportunity to engage with the language, and they really enjoy correcting their own, and particularly each others’ work - answer keys are also great for helping students develop more independence in their learning, and are a great teacher time-saver too. PRIMARY SPANISH ANIMALS KS2 SPANISH ANIMALS KS3 SPANISH ANIMALS I HAVE WHO HAS? Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in Spanish. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the tilde on the letter ñ, and how important that is in creating the correct sound of the word. The aim of the game is to create a Spanish sentence chain as quickly as possible, starting with Tengo la primera tarjeta, and ending with the final card, Tengo la última tarjeta. The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are beginning to familiarise themselves with the written word, and starting to link spelling with sound. There are 25 animals featured in the game: bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit : sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle All the animals may not be in my immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply practicing or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practicing particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more! Laminate the cards if you can: they’re far more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you’ll be able to use them over and over again. This kind of classroom decor provides a real learning opportunity in geography class, and this set is also a great visual prompt when you are discussing world geography in general, and Europe in particular. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters help students develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Europe and its geography. It's useful to show students a clear map of Europe, so that students can visualise the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Europe, but also as a location in relation to other European countries and capital cities. There are two formats to choose from - Europe map or plain without frame. I laminate my classroom learning decor, even though it's extra prep time and expense. The posters display better, as flashcards they're a lot easier to manipulate, and they do remain in excellent condition for years, so you'll be able to recycle them many times. Dominoes games are an ideal language learning activity, and a lively alternative to more traditional practice and consolidation activities. These games will help students build up and embed their knowledge of how to tell the time in Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino time sequence line. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading. There are three games, each with a slightly different level of challenge: Challenge One features a range of clock times,o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour - students tend to learn those clock times first, so it’s good to have a real focus on them to ensure students are confident with the general concept of telling the time in Spanish. I’ve used en punto to express o’clock, but I point out to students that it’s not absolutely necessary, and they’ll see Es la una for example, perhaps even more frequently than Es la una en punto, which tends to convey a certain emphasis. The time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. Challenge Two features a range of all analogue clock times, and is a slightly longer game than Challenge One. Again, the time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. Challenge Three also features a range of analogue clock times, and is the same size as Challenge Two. In this challenge, the clock face appears first, followed by the time phrase, which works slightly differently on recall, and really does help to consolidate knowledge. There’s definitely prep involved - download, print out, and laminate. Laminating is definitely worth the extra time and expense, because the dominoes are far more learner-friendly, and will last in excellent condition for years. The background design on each challenge is different, allowing students to identify which challenge the individual dominoes belong to. These are whole-group lively & communicative language learning games, ideal for practising, reinforcing and consolidating 99 high-frequency French verbs. The games have a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. They’re perfect for pronunciation practice too. Active learning is a really successful way of developing both language skills and general confidence. The Christmas-theme is really popular around the holidays. The verbs are in the infinitive form, and the aim of the games is to create a French verb chain as quickly as possible. There are two games, each with a slightly different challenge: Challenge 1: verbs are in alphabetical order, with the question and answer format: J’ai… Qui a… ? Challenge 2: verbs are in random order, with the question and answer format: As-tu… ? Oui/Non, j’ai… In both challenges, the English translation of the verb appears immediately below the French verbs, which maximises opportunity for really embedding vocabulary. The game works just as well if the cards are placed on a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the games for my advanced beginner French learners, who are ready to move towards intermediate French, but I’ve also played them with my more advanced learners, who really enjoy ’going back to the start’ and having the opportunity to get up, walk about and talk - the games definitely provide some essential variety in learning activities. There is an alphabetical French-English verb list, featuring all the verbs used in the game. This is useful as a longer-term reference resource too.
