The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. Twenty vegetables in French, with both words and pictures - I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my Primary French learners, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. Children glue them into their French vocabulary books, or file them in their French vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful French reference bank for both class and home learning. We also discuss which vegetables we know and like, and those we would like to try. Children like to create their own visual vocabulary lists, adding to it as they learn more vocabulary. I don’t necessarily have all these vegetables in my teaching and learning plan, but it’s always a good idea to give children opportunity to engage with a broader range of words and sounds, which they begin to absorb quite naturally. The vegetables focus on the definite article, either singular or plural, which is a great for promoting discussion about grammatical concepts in French, specifically gender of French nouns. The vegetables are: the artichoke the asparagus the aubergine the beetroot the broccoli the cabbage the carrots the cauliflower the garlic the leek the lettuce the mushrooms the onions the peas the pepper the potatoes the spinach the sweetcorn the tomato There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I use for French vocabulary display, or plain. SPANISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS FRUITS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE

SPANISCH FÜR DEUTSCHSPRACHIGE ALEMÁN SPANISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS SPANISH FRUITS WORD SEARCH for German-speaking Spanish learners. Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a Spanish fruits word search with answer key, perfect for beginner Spanish learners of all grades. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more creatively about language, and their new Spanish vocabulary - they may learn la manzana, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example. There is a Spanish to German grid, where learners are prompted with the Spanish word, and look for it in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, the grid also features a German word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on the grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Spanish and German, and facilitates learner independence. There is an answer key grid for the search grid, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are really essential - they offer learners an additional opportunity to engage with language, develop more independence in their learning, and students genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own, and particularly each others’ work. They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! The word search is in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading and writing from left to right in both Spanish and German. I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners, ensuring language is very clear and accessible. This kind of activity is really versatile too - I use for sub lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m focusing on fruits in Spanish. SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE

SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie Spanish Christmas word search features fourteen common Spanish Christmas words, which helps to develop students’ awareness of some Spanish Christmas vocabulary and customs, such as la Nochebuena and el turrón. I use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and traditions, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ each others’ work - additionally, they’re a great teacher time-saver, which is always a bonus! The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right for speakers of English as a first or home language, facilitating their engagement with the activity. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish Christmas activities, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resources boxes, and lots of freebies too! My students have always found these a really useful learning activity. With the structured speaking prompts, they are able to develop confidence in their speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of English grammar too. There are 15 questions with 15 suggested responses. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt. The questions in this freebie are aimed at advanced beginner to intermediate English students, though my more advanced students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time. There’s a reference sheet, with all the questions and answers written out in full - I always provide a reference resource, and my students like to keep them in their learning folders for longer-term reference. When they create their own questions and answers for each other on the question and answer card template, they also find them really useful as a form of writing frame. I always laminate my language learning cards, even though the prep is a bit time-consuming - they’re far sturdier and easier to use, and will definitely last for years! For young and / or beginner German learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows o’clock on a single page. ESL EFL ENGLISH CONJUNCTIONS & CONNECTIVES Create an instant reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency common English conjunctions and connectives, really giving English language students a flying start with their core target vocabulary, and enabling them to build an enriched range of language from the very beginning of their learning. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a collection of one hundred common English conjunctions and connectives that students will meet in the advanced beginner into advanced intermediate stages of English learning programmes - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English conjunctions and connectives, and are confident with the meaning of those words in their first and / or home language, so that they can produce more complex and descriptive language and more complex sentences as soon as possible. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 100 conjunctions and connectives all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English vocabulary and use practically and creatively as they form more complex sentences. It is definitely the case that frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocab into longer-term memory. I encourage my ESL / EFL learners to create accompanying lists corresponding to their first / home languages. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which looks good as part of a vocabulary display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which looks good as grammar / vocabulary display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn. BEGINNER ITALIAN INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN ADVANCED ITALIAN CONJUNCTIONS CONNECTIVES LIST 35 high-frequency Italian conjunctions and connectives, alphabetically Italian-English and English-Italian. I create a lot of essential vocabulary lists for my language students, as they find them really useful, both in the classroom and at home. The lists work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I tend to use for vocabulary display, or black wave. I use a background for vocabulary lists quite a lot, because it does make them more visually appealing, which is really important for language learners who do have a lot of vocabulary to learn. SPANISH NUMBERS 0-31 I HAVE, WHO HAS?

SPANISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER SPANISH NUMBERS 0-31 Tengo ¿Quién tiene? This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in Spanish. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create a Spanish number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card cero, and ending with the final card, treinta y uno. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my young beginner learners, but I’ve also played the game with my adult learners, who really enjoy it too - the monster theme is popular with everyone! The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with the written word. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning. Download, print out, laminate, cut out & shuffle the cards. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration, reading out loud and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best Spanish accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can students beat beat their own time record? I always do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play! Mots Cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie word search features fourteen French Christmas words, which helps to develop students’ awareness of some Francohphone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicholas and Père Fouettard. I use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. I always give answer keys to my word searches - that works really well in terms of helping students work and learn independently together without me, and gives them even more opportunity to engage with French. They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a bonus! I use word searches as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the Christmas season, not only if I’m introducing French Christmas vocabulary.
