A double sided worksheet with answers. Students are helped to identify perpendicular lines and use this information to identify different triangles and quadrilaterals. They need to think deeply about certain properties. Students need to use a ruler and protractor or set square to construct perpendicular lines in given triangles and parallelograms. These perpendicular heights then need to be measured to the nearest mm.
This worksheet is a preliminary to finding the area of a triangle or parallelogram.

This activity can be used as an individual or class investigation of the properties of the tangram.
There are many different types of questions that can be answered. Mathematical thinking, rational numbers, perimeter and area and 2-dimensional shapes are covered.
The teacher could restrict the questions where necessary to cater for individual differences.
A rubric is included for assessment purposes if required.

This is a set of 2 activities helping students understand how to explore the relationship between right-angled triangles and rectangles, leading to finding the area of a right-angled triangle.
The first activity has 2 pages that need to be printed on separate pages because students will need to cut out and assemble rectangles.

A 3 page activity with worked solutions. Students need to construct different Fibonacci number patterns by varying the starting numbers. They need to identify even numbers and look for any patterns. They need to graph their answers and note the shapes formed. They need to find the area of a number of squares that can be arranged into a large rectangle and find its area.

An activity with solutions catering for a wide range of ability.
The first activity is where students need to be able to follow instructions to construct and cut out, manipulate the shapes to form a rectangle, and calculate area and perimeter of rectangles. There is also a challenge for more able students.
The second activity is for younger or less able students, where the teacher prepares the shapes beforehand and then can ask the students to form a rectangle, or give the students the shape of the rectangle for them to fill in with the shapes (like a jigsaw).

Students need to write the times table using a calculator. They then can fold the edge of the paper over and try to answer by themselves. Trickier questions are included as well as using division facts for the same times table.
Students could complete these worksheets in class or as a homework activity.
A series of 3 worksheets ( the first one being double sided) where students need to use their geometrical reasoning skills to work out the answers.

Activity showing two different methods for enlargement. There is a one page worksheet using the grid method with solutions. There is also a three page worksheet with solutions using the ray method. The enlargement factor is also calculated.
These different methods could be taught individually or together.
An interesting challenge is to use the ray method to enlarge a small drawing, e.g. a favourite cartoon character. These make a great poster and can be used to decorate your class room.
