All my resources have been created to use with classes I teach. Often I've created resources because, for a particular topic, I haven't been happy with the number/standard of the examples in a textbook. Sometimes I've created worksheets for certain topics (e.g. graph transformations) because I feel my classes will make greater progress on a printed worksheet than trying to work from a textbook. I always aim to produce high-quality resources that improve the students' learning and understanding.

Using the sign change rule (new A level maths)

(0)
This resource covers the use of graphs and/or the sign-change rule to investigate roots of equations, as required for the new A level. It contains notes, explanations and examples to work through with your class followed by an exercise of questions for students to attempt themselves (answers included). The notes cover: (a) Use of a sketch of y=f(x) and y=g(x) to investigate roots of f(x) = g(x) (b) Using a sketch of y=f(x)-g(x) to investigate roots of f(x)=g(x) © Using the sign-change rule (d) Conditions where the sign-change rule can be misleading This projectable and printable resource will save you having to create or write out any notes/examples when teaching the topic, and will make things easier for your students as they can just work directly on the given spaces provided for solutions. Answers to the exercise are included. Also included is a short activity to show how this method can be used to find smaller intervals where a root lies, which can be used as an introduction to iterative methods. Here is an example of one of my A level resources that is freely available: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/differentiation-and-integration-with-exponential-and-trigonometric-functions-new-a-level-11981186

Multiply / divide by 10, 100, 1000... activity

This activity is a nice way to check your whole class is secure on multiplying or dividing by 10, 100, 1000 etc. The powerpoint has 20 multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty, and there is an answer grid for your students to indicate their answers. There is a second powerpoint that can be used to check the answers. I used this with my year 7 group and they all got quite competitive trying to get all 20 questions correct.

This simple, one-sided worksheet is designed to help students learn/recall how to simplify expressions. It begins by explaining when terms can be put together, then there are 12 pairs of terms for students to consider, combining them where appropriate. The final section contains 16 expressions for students to practise simplifying. Answers to the sheet are included.

Quick worksheet on using chain rule

After teaching my classes how to differentiate using chain rule and giving them enough practice to feel confident about the method, I have used this worksheet to try to encourage them to use less time and steps. My classes enjoyed the challenge of trying to complete the sheet within the time - you can always amend the time limit for weaker/stronger groups. Solutions are attached. Note that this sheet assumes that students know how to differentiate the functions e^x and ln(x).

This simple 2-sided worksheet can be used to introduce/practice finding a fraction of a quantity. The first page deals with finding 1/n of a quantity - there is an introduction with a few examples and then 20 questions for students to complete. The second page deals with finding m/n of a quantity - there is an introduction with a few examples and then 20 questions for students to complete. Worked answers are provided.
