Do you need a basic Music Theory course that is not babyish? Are you looking for a theory course which will teach or revise the basics in an engaging but age-appropriate way? THIS is why I created this course! This is Book 1 in the series (more coming very soon - follow me to be the first to see new releases!). The workbook introduces the basics of music theory, which you might want to use as revision for your classes, or to start from the beginning with older learners with no prior music experience. Topics included in Book 1 are: The Treble Clef Treble Stave Notes Practising Treble Stave Notes Note Values Rest Values Dotted Notes Stems and Tails Ascending, Descending, Step and Leap Leger Lines Bars and Bar Lines The workbook also contains space for students to make notes, and a self-reflection task for them to evaluate their progress. 2 versions of the booklet are included, one with USA terms (staff, whole note, measure etc) and one with UK terms (stave, semibreve, bar etc). See the product preview for more detail. The printable workbook is in PDF format and is 14 pages long. There is one page for each of the ten topics, each with clear explanations and two written tasks for pupils. This booklet is versatile and can be used in class, as homework, with whole classes or even by individual piano teachers or instrumental teachers on a one-to-one basis. It is designed to be worked through in order, spending a little time each lesson on theory, over 10 weeks in total. I have used this booklet for years with my own students, usually from age 8-12, but the clear layout makes it suitable for any age. These sub plans are a must-have for your music classes! All 8 require no prep, little/no technology, and are suitable for non-specialist teachers. The worksheets are ready to print and go for cover work, supply teachers, emergencies, quiet lessons and independent work. This set of sub plans includes: A Year of Music A-Z Questions Composer Profile Film Music Moment Plan a Jukebox Musical Plan a Music Festival Song Research Task Stop the Bus The worksheets have been designed with convenience in mind! Print and copy a class set of each and keep them in your sub tub or folder with the overview sheets. Pupils answer on paper to save copying new sheets each time! Overview and recording sheets are included: when a cover teacher needs a lesson, you or they can see at a glance which classes have done which sheets, and which sheet will be best for that class. Each worksheet should last a lesson (assuming 50-60 minutes) and there are suggestions of extension activities for fast finishers or to differentiate for mixed ability classes. General, open questions make these suitable for a range of ages and abilities. The sheets are dyslexia-friendly with careful choice of layout and fonts. Pupils can work independently with no assistance from the teacher, perfect for non-specialists. The worksheets cover a range of topics so you are sure to find something any situation. Each has an icon in the corner to help you sort them quickly if they get mixed up. The range included means these can be used for many different classes. They are aimed at Y7-10 (Scottish BGE S1-3) but the open-question nature of the worksheets allow them to be used for older or younger students too. I really hope you find this product useful! This upper primary/lower secondary music listening unit is flexible and ready to use. No prep, no tech, no instruments - use it whatever your teaching situation! Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre is a classical favorite, especially at Halloween. Your students will be engaged in the creepy story and timeless music. This unit lasts around 4 lessons and covers the following: multiple listening tasks background on composer symphonic poem waltz canon polyphonic short rhythmic composition theory tasks recognising instruments describing the music recognising signs and symbols creative response/non-music tasks pupil workbook (10 pages PDF format, color and grayscale versions) teacher notes/lesson plans with answers (4 pages PDF format) bonus printable cards for listening activities suggestions of differentiation/extension/enrichment activities Included are UK and USA versions (bar/measure, crotcher/quarter note etc) as well as colour and black and white versions for your printing preference. The audio is not included, for copyright/licensing reasons, but I have an included a link - it is easy to find on all major platforms. The only technology you require is something to play the audio from (eg a computer, CD player or bluetooth speaker) making this product ideal for teachers without a fixed room or access to technology. No instruments are required as all rhythm exercises can be clapped. Despite the “no instruments, no technology” label, this is a jam-packed, engaging and comprehesive unit. The “fidget pop” design is always a hit, and there’s something very satisfying about popping the buttons to answer questions, check answers, and add to your score. Having two different difficulty versions of the game allows you to return to the activity later on in the year with the more difficult version, or to differentiate your lesson by having some students using each version depending on their ability. Your students will be able to work independently as the answers are included in the game. It can be used with teams, as a whole class activity, or single players to fit your class requirements. This product could also be used by piano teachers or other instrumental tutors looking for a fresh way to revise note names. The game is easy to follow and instructions are included.
