I am an ex-primary head teacher and English, Maths and History specialist. I've mostly worked in KS2, often in Year 6. Although for the last two years, I've been working in Year 1, which has been delightful! All the resources have been used successfully with children in a range of schools all over the country. Learning Objective: To identify one more One more / One less This lesson consists of: A differentiated starter – Counting Triangles. A counting game for groups of children to take in turns counting different shapes by taking straws equal to each of 5 rolls of the dice. An Interactive Whiteboard teaching introduction for both Notebook and ActivInspire flipchart teaching how a number track can be used to identify one more and one less of a given number. A counting game for groups of children to take in turns counting up to a target number of 20 (LA), 30 (MA) 40 (HA) using base 10 equipment and a dice. A second starter finding the value of numbers represented by tens and ones. An Interactive Whiteboard teaching introduction for both Notebook and ActivInspire flipchart building on the skill of one to one correspondence before extending this to teach grouping into tens and ones using Base 10 equipment and linked to recognising the number of tens and ones that are used to represent a number.
