This resource can be used for students studying English Literature. It is a 5 page worksheet, where students are required to read the excerpts of the HG Wells novel, The War of the Worlds and answer questions about the text. It includes questions, such as: How different was man’s idea of Martians compared to how they actually were? How does H.G. Wells describe the breakdown of social order? How would you feel being amongst the crowd?

This is a 1 page resource that can be used for students that require support in building social skills, such as students with Autism or Entry Level 1-3. I usually use this after the Initial Assessment, so the students can share any concerns they have around travelling on public transport. They also have to think of the benefits to using public transport (independence etc.) and what travel strategies they can use to help them (fidget toys, music on headphones etc.)

A video game character design worksheet for students studying Gaming or Media Studies or Creative iMedia. Students are required to design a new video game character for Nintendo’s Mario Kart by creating a mood board for the character and an accompanying Word document describing the character and their personality. This resource can be used for students studying Level 1+ It could be used as an extension task or for substitute teaching.

This resource can be used for students completing a Gaming or Media Studies course. This is a 4 page game review worksheet for the video game 5 Nights at Freddy’s, where students answer questions about tasks within the game, comparisons with games of the same genre, characters, graphics and sound etc. This can be used as an extension task after students have played the game or for substitute teaching.

I use this resource for students completing the EDSQ Essential Digital Skills Qualification. ICT/IT tutors can use the evidence assessment sheets to state what evidence is provided in the students portfolios, when students have demonstrated practical ICT/IT skills or completed paperwork for their EDSQ course. This is a 1 page resource where students can peer assess each others work. They can state, what the artist did well, what they would like to see more of and what the art work shows. It can be used for the criteria : Comment constructively on someone else’s work.

I use this resource for students studying Game or Media Studies. It can be used as an extension task or for substitute teaching. Students are given a commonly thought statement about video games (violent, only for teenagers and geared towards males) and they are challenged to prove if the statement is true or false by providing any evidence to the contrary. It could also be used as the basis for a debate/discussion for Functional Skills English/Literacy.

I use this resource with the accompanying PowerPoint for CEIAG (Careers Education Information Advice & Guidance) sessions in Media Studies sessions. Students recap the 5 different media sectors and then research a career in the media sector (via the PowerPoint/Group Discussion). Afterwards, the students can complete this worksheet, stating what skills and qualities are needed for the chosen career and how they have been working on these within sessions. Can be easily adapted to suit your subject area.

A Goonies film review 3 page worksheet for students studying Film or Media Studies. Students have to answer specific questions about the plot and give their overall opinion of the film. This resource could be used as an extension task, after the students have watched the movie, as a substitute teaching task or for Creative iMedia.
