This activity works well for Primary pupils to introduce themselves to their teachers at secondary school. The pupils write their best answers to each of the questions in this writing frame. The class teacher or teaching assistant would discuss this with the pupils and encourage them to use their best handwriting and give as much detail as they can fit into the boxes. The sheets are then passed to the transition coordinator at the relevant secondary school. This worked very well at my school when we had a multitude of feeder schools as it enabled us to get the same information from all. Colour-coding the sheets, i.e. photocopying them onto different coloured paper according to the feeder schools prior to taking them to the Primary Schools will make it easier to see later how many pupils from the various feeder schools have been grouped into each tutor group.

This information sheet works well for Primary teachers to pass on information to their pupils’ teachers at Secondary School. While the sheets contain some of the information which will also be passed on in the pupils’ files, this presents a nice summary of what heads of year, form tutors and teachers need to know about their new pupils. AQA EDEXCEL This 7-page workbook is the 5th workbook in this series and takes students through more aspects of food preparation skills which they are required to demonstrate at GCSE, i.e. sauce making, tenderising and marinating meat, fish, vegetables and meat alternatives. This is an ideal resource for learners to complete in class, as revision or as homework. Most tasks do however require learners to have access to a textbooks, cookery books or the internet. Tasks include matching pictures to skills areas, applying thinking and knowledge, explaining applications of skills, identifying, discussing and explaining ingredients, several research tasks and finally a fun-crossword puzzle to consolidate some of the terminology practised in the workbook (a solution to the crossword is also provided). This pack on healthy eating includes a 5-page workbook, a 9-page ‘own habits log’, a document with suggestions for use and differentiation, the Eatwell Guide illustration itself, picture cards and word cards. Throughout, learners are reminded of what food and drink items contribute to healthy nutrition and therefore a balanced diet. Use the picture and word cards to enable learners to recognise the items used in the Eatwell Guide. Follow this up by letting them work through the workbook and study the different categories of food and drink, the good and the bad… Project: Learners can then move on to completing their own personal log by reflecting on their nutritional intake, working out the percentage of how many items in each category they consume on average and how their own Plate would look if they drew the segments according to their own diet.
