One of the hardest elements of teaching can be finding good quality resources that don't overcomplicate what you are teaching. I am all about breaking down resources into small steps so children understand whilst also appreciating teachers don't need too much or overcomplicated material to deliver their lessons. A range of tried and tested English, maths and wider curriculum resources focused on Years 4, 5 and 6. High quality resources from an experienced primary teacher.

Retrieval activity that focuses on chapter four of Ted Hughes the Iron Man book. Great activity midway through the book that focuses on the retrieve and record reading domain. Questions are presented in different ways such as recording full answers, ticking answers, matching up answers and true/false statements. Smart notebook presentation is provided to guide through the questions. This also has a dictation fluency activity to start (answers at the end of the smart notebook), a retrieval starter activity using a video and an example text to work through before moving onto The Iron Man text. A retrieval resource kept simple, but that zeros in on precision when reading and recording information.

A resource focused on first identifying prepositions and looking at how prepositional phrases are used. This is a simple resource to use which first looks at the grammatical skill of identifying the word class of prepositions, and then to apply prepositional phrases in writing. Step one focuses on identifying the preposition and prepositional phrase, step 2 requires modification of the preposition to make the sentence make sense and step 3 allows pupils to apply their understanding of prepositional phrases in their writing. This is made up of 4 documents : a fluency starter activity, step 1 and 2 worksheet, step 3 extension activity and the smart notebook to guide through the lesson. A worksheet resource made for editing and then improving writing. The shirt paragraph on this sheet has spelling errors, missing punctuation and incorrect sentence structure. A period of the lesson is spent editing section 1, and going through on the board on the PDF copy. Children can then re-write the paragraph below applying a range of sentence openers, improved vocabulary and the correct punctuation. This is a very simple resource which has been very effective in between extended writes. Lots of discussion around spellings and sentence structure which has then lead into the children’s long write. Simple to use for teachers.
