Dafydd Drops a Goal is a poem about rugby. It tells of a young boy dropped to the substitutes' bench during an important cup match. He comes on to play during the dying minutes of the game and saves it with a drop goal. The unit was specifically written to provide pupils, particularly boys, with some challenging material that would perhaps change their attitude towards poetry. Ideal for years 5 and 6.

An interactive whiteboard resource exploring oral expression. Pupils describe images to a partner, constuct an oral story from key words and describe a diary entry, based on events in a day. These activities should teach pupils to be confident in describing pictures and events and improve their creative storytelling. They should also help pupils to understand the differences between speaking to an audience and speaking to a friend, in descriptive language and reporting.

This resource pack allows pupils to find differences and similarities between well-known fairy stories. They look at six scenes and characters from six fairy tales and then put them into the correct storybook. Pupils make a chart that compares characters and incidents in fairy tales. Pupils have the opportunity to make their own fairy tale, adding pictures and text from a large bank of images and props.
