I found that students were making very weak comments about the effects of poetic devices in poetry. Therefore I created this mind map that can be used as a placemat or classroom wall poster. It encouraged students to look at the writer's intention more, rather than just writing "this has a positive effect". I will be using with AQA Power and Conflict poetry GCSE, however it is flexible.

This PP was used over a week with Y9 students as an introduction to 19C literature. The unit looked at skills needed for both the language and literature exam.
