This lesson explicitly addresses racism that may have been happening in your school or class.
The learning objective is to understand what racism is.
The first slides focuses on what racism is and has a link to a child friendly youtube video to answer this question.
The next few slides focus on identity and how someone’s identity is who they are and many of these qualities you cannot change ie. skin colour, sexual orientation, likes, dislikes etc.
One of the slides addresses the fact that just because someone has a different preference or quality to you doesn’t mean it effects you personally. We are all different but that does not matter - we all have the same community and need to work together.
There is another link to a Youtube story ‘a kids book about racism’ by Jelani Memory.
We then look at WHY someone might grow up with racist views ie. parents, closed-minded etc.
We then discuss how you can be racist without realising ie. saying certain words or stereotyping.
We then look at quotes and we address why those comments are racist.
The next few slides show motivational posters to stop racism which are a discussion point.
I have attached Twinkl’s racism scenario cards which is what my class responded to in their books.

I taught this to a Year 4 class but this can be used from Year 4 - Year 6.
This will support children in knowing how to cope with loss and exploring this and strategies to support them. Included in this are the tasks and links to stories on Youtube so you do not need the physical book yourself.
5 ready to teach lessons. Just download and teach!
This unit includes a PowerPoint with clear lessons. Included in the lessons are Youtube links to storybooks to support the learning.
This unit of work is based off the book ‘Growth Mindset Lessons: Every child a learner’.
The planning is taken from Year 2 but is flexible and would also suit Year 3 and year 4.
Here are the lesson objectives:
Lesson 1: work in a specific role and help a child with a fixed mindset.
Lesson 2: identify and describe how we feel when we make a mistake and know which strategies can help us.
Lesson 3: debate whether girls should be allowed to be engineers
Lesson 4: explain what effort is
Lesson 5: set a learning challenge and identify progress

This Powerpoint essentially contains two lessons on LGBTQ.
This Powerpoint starts with definitions of LGBTQ+.
It contains information and history of the rainbow flag.
It contains the life story of Jin Xing, a transgender Chinese ballet dancer. There is opportunity to see ballet as a dance that requires muscle and strength with the opportunity of creating short ballet routines in groups.
At the end of the Powerpoint is a link to a story called Roxy the Racoon by Alice Reeves. There is an activity to complete that requires children to invent their own inclusive character for a children’s book.
These lessons were made with Year 4 students in mind but is very open to all ages. It is easily accessible and explains things simply in a way that all children should understand.
