This is an IB MYP - Mathematical vision related unit - which is ideal for students relating mathematics and interacting with the world around them. This unit engages students with trigonometry, exponentials (powers), ratios, spatial awareness and a great deal more in a broad conceptual understanding. It contains many, many resource links suggested for this unit and makes clear a set of points that students should know, understand and be able to do by the end of the unit. It also has some clear and interactive formative assessments and summative assessments. This unit is heavily detailed and ideal for something that is truly prepared to use in the classroom. It is an overview for a unit that should run for approximately 5 weeks (assuming 3 lessons a week). If instead you are looking for an MYP unit planner also for mathematics, but based on measurement and related concepts, then consider the mathematical vision unit plan. For science and young students in MYP and which would be an ideal first unit, then consider: Nature of Science - introductory unit plan. For around the same age group, but in science - for MYP 2 / 3 an alternative IB MPY unit planner would be: the Food and Energy unit planner or the Growth unit planner. This unit engages students with trigonometry, exponentials (powers), ratios, and spatial awareness. The Art of Mathematics unit plan is ideal for students relating mathematics and geometry. This unit engages students with shapes, lines, rotations, geometric concepts, dance, and art. The Problem with Money unit plan is ideal for students relating mathematics and various aspects of money. This unit engages students with fractions, decimals, percentages, flowcharts, univariate and bivariate data, graphs, and pie charts. The Unlikely Life unit plan is ideal for students relating mathematics and probabilities. This unit engages students with probabilities, tree diagrams, fractions, food webs, and venn diagrams. These four unit plans each contain many, many links and ideas that keep learning engaging and fun during the weeks that they are running. They are brain-child of months of work to make fully fleshed out mathematics units that integrate other areas of study, but are also truly in keeping to focus on the mathematics and help the students learn in an enjoyable way. This Mechanic Maths Article highlights some of the useful mathematics knowledge and examples where mechanics might need to use mathematics in their everyday work. This mathematics article provides the answer to that age old student question: When will we ever use this in real life? Well the answer as it turns out could be given in the perfect grab and go, print and provide resource that can supplement lessons. It is an article with questions to check comprehension and inspire mathematical thinking with real life connections. I am very happy with this small series of mathematics articles and they are rich with information and the why and when of mathematics. Each mathematics article includes a fun fact(s) to add to the knowledge gained from this article. Formatted in an easy to read and digest manner, each paragraph is numbered to help with referencing and each question answer has a paragraph reference number to point to the specific information (where applicable). They also have two images as well to give a bit of visual flair for students to enjoy.
