This lesson focuses on getting students to form opinions of Mrs Lyons at the start of the play, and introducing them to the concepts of hero, antihero and villain. Students find evidence for their opinions in the text, and are exposed to sophisticated vocabulary to describe Mrs Lyons as they read.

This is a complete set of 14 lessons on ‘Blood Brothers’, designed for KS4 students preparing for AQA English Literature. The lessons are broken down by song so no matter which version of the text you have copies of, it should be easy to follow. It covers the whole play and I used these lessons as an accompaniment to reading the text for the first time. Also included in this set is a copy of my best-selling Blood Brothers knowledge organiser, which is a great revision tool and can be used for setting homework. In addition to this, I have included my consolidation sheets for Act 1 and Act 2, which make a great independent revision activity. I use this TEACH framework as an alternative to PEE paragraphs or other writing structures, as I find that it can be adapted for all ability levels and is more attuned to the new AQA GCSE literature mark scheme. Rather than being restrictive, it allows students to build to a more detailed analysis.
