Maths Further Pure 2 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(61)
Powerpoints and worksheets (good as unit tests) for the entire FP2 course, in a similar style to my other A-level stuff. Made for the Edexcel Pearson books but can probably be adapted for other courses. There is a simple geogebra file that goes with the Further Complex numbers PPT, but you'll have to edit the hyperlink! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here (There is a lot of A-level work!) :)
Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones
Owen134866Owen134866

Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones

(60)
2 lessons on the aforementioned topics. There is a selection of harder questions to challenge the more able on the each sheet and a demonstration of where the formula for the curved surface area of a cone comes from. If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Plotting Quadratic Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Plotting Quadratic Graphs

(102)
Pupils are shown how to plot Quadratic graphs including both positive and negative x-squared coefficients. Has a few examples of where they may be used to model motion. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
3D Trigonometry
Owen134866Owen134866

3D Trigonometry

(47)
Powerpoint to be used to explain how to use Trigonometry in 3D shapes. Includes a starter, main explanation and a plenary. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Equivalent Fractions Game
Owen134866Owen134866

Equivalent Fractions Game

(42)
Pupils roll dice and simplify the fractions they get on the grid, with the person with the biggest fraction getting a point. I usually play 10 rounds and then pupils move round and play someone else. They can also discuss at the end whether the game was fair and how to determine whether it was or wasn't. Sometimes if the class is small I record results on the board (like football scores) and get them to draw a up a league table! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Functions
Owen134866Owen134866

Functions

(78)
These 4 powerpoints have been made for the Cambridge IGCSE course and cover the section on functions. Pupils learn about function notation and what it means, and see how to approach problems involving composite and inverse functions. The textbook has the relevant exercises! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Using one graph to solve another
Owen134866Owen134866

Using one graph to solve another

(44)
This is a topic that is quite hard to explain but hopefully this 2 lesson sequence will help. Pupils should already know how to plot linear and quadratic graphs and this builds up to using the graph of one equation to solve a different one. Everything needed is here but you will need to write on the powerpoint in parts. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Prime Decomposition, HCF and LCM
Owen134866Owen134866

Prime Decomposition, HCF and LCM

(66)
Calculating the HCF and LCM of 2 (or more) numbers by using Prime Decomposition and Venn Diagrams. Includes some worded questions and follows on from the other Prime Decomposition lesson I have on the TES site. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Angles in Polygons
Owen134866Owen134866

Angles in Polygons

(35)
A lesson covering rules for finding interior and exterior angles in polygons. Includes a worksheet with answers and a load of challenge questions from the UKMT papers. I really like to use this with the excellent 'Angles in Polygons Challenge' worksheet uploaded by the legendary Tristan Jones! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/angles-in-polygons-challenge-6443005
Volume of Pyramids and Cones
Owen134866Owen134866

Volume of Pyramids and Cones

(34)
Pupils learn to calculate the volume of pyramids and cones using the relevant formula. There is a selection of harder questions to challenge the more able on the sheet. In the powerpoint is a link to a demonstration of the formula (not involving calculus as students studying this topic most likely will not have encountered this yet!). The video is NOT my own work - credit goes to mathematicsonline for that! If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Plotting Straight Line Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Plotting Straight Line Graphs

(93)
In this lesson, student learn how to plot straight line graphs by using a table of values. There is a sheet of questions that they can get straight into without having to draw out axes. In addition, there is a good question about investigating what happens if you switch the x and y values in an equation, which should lead to some nice discussions and discoveries! Forming and Solving Equations

(100)
Pupils create equations from worded scenarios. The Powerpoint has a number of examples to use which you will need to write on, as well as a starter, plenary and worksheet with answers! :) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Faces, Edges and Vertices
Owen134866Owen134866

Faces, Edges and Vertices

(54)
Powerpoint and worksheet where pupils try to find the pattern in the number of Faces, Edges and Vertices that 3D shapes have. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
A-level Further Mechanics 1 (AS and A2)
Owen134866Owen134866

A-level Further Mechanics 1 (AS and A2)

(31)
This set of 5 powerpoints have been designed to match the Edexcel Further Mechanics 1 textbook (Further Maths), and have largely been adapted from my previous A-level resources. Every chapter is covered, and within are explanations that could be used to teach lessons or be shared with students via a digital classroom. Puzzle of the Week
Owen134866Owen134866

Puzzle of the Week

(20)
Each of these documents contains 30 puzzles which I have used over 3 academic years as 'puzzle of the week&'. I have a folder on the wall and pupils help themselves to printouts and they hand them into a box in my room, receiving merits for correct answers. Many of the puzzles are not necessarily my own work, just things I have found over the years! Its worth mentioning that they aren&';t all Maths-based, although most are... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :) EDIT: 1/12/14 Added year 3!
Prime Decomposition
Owen134866Owen134866

Prime Decomposition

(41)
Single lesson on Prime Decomposition, including worksheet with some different types of pattern to spot, such as powers of decomposed square numbers. Also a simplified explanation of how banks use Prime numbers. There is a link in the plenary that shows (at least for my classroom PC!) that computers find it hard to break down even numbers with 8+ digits, never mind 200!) More Maths Relays

(38)
As with Chris Smith's group challenges, we have also built his Maths relays (https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/maths-relay-races-problem-solving-puzzles-6064073) into our Y7 scheme of work. They have proven to be very popular with the pupils, and we therefore needed some for Y8 as well - so I made some! The instructions give a few ideas that make these run more smoothly! The majority of the problems have been taken from elsewhere so are not all my own work. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Areas of Flags (with circles)

Areas of Flags (with circles)

(27)
A while ago I uploaded a set of resources on calculating the areas of shapes on flags, see here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/areas-of-flags-6327719 A number of people messaged me asking if I had one for circles - and here is is now! I had to get creative with finding flags I could use, and I’d recommend that you have already had a lesson on Area and Circumference before this, as the questions get very challenging! Thank you to @1hannahjones for making a number of corrections and clarifications! Fibonacci Algebra
Owen134866Owen134866

Fibonacci Algebra

(35)
Powerpoint and sheet on using Algebra to solve problems relating to the Fibonacci sequence. The second type of question is very impressive if you get the hang of doing it mentally in front of a class! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! EDIT 21/5/13: Added a better 3rd question to the presentation and worksheet, as well as an answer sheet! EDIT 2/6/13: Corrected the animation order on the starter!
