(0)
Use these 4th of July shapes to make recognising 2-dimensional shapes and naming them fun. Your EYFS and KS1 students can use these easy prep 2d shapes to play maths games such as Memory, Pairs and Snap in groups find the matching shapes (for nursery) or shape and shape names (reception and year 1) and understand the mathematical properties (Years 2 & 3). With the red, blue & white clipart, this resource is ideal for celebrating Independence Day but can also be used for maths activities at other times. Most students love games, and these resources lend themselves well to playing popular games practicing key maths skills, recognising and naming 2D shapes and understanding definitions for these. Students can play this as part of their CHIL, or child-initiated independent learning activities, or as part of a maths lesson. Put them in your tuff tray or your maths centre to introduce and encourage games for geometry. Differentiation is easy - match for example the picture of a circle to the word ‘circle’ or print these 2x and match the same shapes. Challenge use the names and the definitions to read and understand the mathematical terms used to describe the shapes. If you use this as an adult-led activity, then ask questions such as: How many pointy bits/angles are there? How many sides are there? Do they look as if they are the same length? Are all the sides straight or curved? Can you name the shape? Can you see a similar shape in our classroom? You will get cards with: 14 shapes 14 shape names 14 shape definitions Instructions how to play different games notes patterns for the backs of the cards Prep is easy and quick - print, cut up the cards and you are ready for a fun and engaging lesson. Great for you: Low prep Ideal for your maths and 4th July-themed centres Great as independent activities in a math lesson Ideal if you need a quick resource e.g. for supply teachers Great for extra geometry practice Fun homework Great for your students: Gives students opportunities to get familiar with shapes Discuss and understand about the properties of shapes with others Have fun with geometry Read maths words such as circle, triangle, oval Understand mathematical properties of 2d shapes If you like this resource, I would really appreciate it if you could leave a review. Ask questions such as: How many stars/ stripes can you ‘see’ without counting - subitizing? Is it easier to ‘see’ if you see them in groups e.g. a 3 and a 4? Can you make a sum using the cards and symbols and show me 3 + 4 = ?using the numbers or the pictures - addition skills? Can you read the words and match them to the numerals? You will get cards with: 0-10 numerals 0-10 stars for counting 0-10 stripes for counting Zero to ten in words Stars and stripes on 1 card to add 2 quantities together Matching addition sums to recognize and find 12 subtraction sums to find the equivalent pictures or answers for (2 for answers 1 and 5) notes patterns for the backs of the cards Great for you: Prep is easy and quick - print, cut up the cards and you are ready for a fun and engaging lesson. Ideal for your math and 4th of July-themed centres Great as independent activities in a math lesson Ideal if you need a quick resource e.g. for substitute days Great for extra counting practice Great for your students: Gives students opportunities to count carefully and subitize Count together and discuss the final number being the total number Add 2 quantities together and recognize the matching sum - seeing this as a written sum is an important step up from seeing the objects Have fun with math Read number words If you like this resource, I would really appreciate it if you could leave a review.
