Handouts and timelines relating to the 1917 Revolution in Russia. Material covers the February Revolution, Kornilov Affair, Provisional Government and the October Revolution. This would be suitable for all A Level candidates studying the Russian Revolution across all exam boards. Please rate and comment, as all feedback is appreciated.

The three topics are: geographical differences, class differences and gender differences. Students will discover how 'popular culture' was not necessarily one distinct phenomenon and that it was experienced in different ways by different people.

Various handouts and activity sheets on the 1905 Revolution in Russia. Also included are materials on the October Manifesto and various opposition groups. These materials are useful for A Level students studying the Russian Revolution and/or Tsarist Russia. This is relevant for all exam boards. Please rate and comment, as all feedback is appreciated.

A number of resources relating to AQA's Britain: Health and the People unit. These relate to Q4 of the exam paper, which asks students to draw out themes from the course. Included is a revision table where students can make notes on each of the 4 chronological sections of the course; blow this up to A3 to allow enough room for notes. I have also included a guide to Q4 along with an exemplar answer written by a student of mine.

A display intended for a History Department (but could be adapted for English!) on the theory of 'Herstory', putting women back into history and focusing on female achievement. Included are several examples of influential women in History (all images from wiki-commons). By printing the descriptions as A5 and folding over, you can create a 'lift up' display. Students will only see the image and the description of the female figure; however, they will have to lift up to see their name (a great activity to see if anybody knows these women straight away!). Just put a comment below if you need further assistance on how to put the display together!

A selection of resources related to the AQA History specification; specifically the Britain: Health and the People unit of work. The worksheets include tasks on key renaissance individuals (Pare, Vesalius, Harvey etc.) as well as Jenner and general renaissance discoveries. Students will need their blue Hodder text books to complete these tasks and may also require internet access for research.

A set of teacher notes that I created over the summer in preparation for first teaching of the Edexcel unit: Unification of Italy, 1830-1870. The notes follow the order of the Hodder text book by Podesta; however, both the Pearson and Access to History books have been used to supplement this information. The date range begins in c.1815 to give some context in the run up to the 1830 Edexcel start date. This resource is intended to be used as a start point for teachers who are new to this topic; they will find even more information in the text books listed above. The resource has been created using Word 2013 in its Notebook layout, so the formatting may be slightly different if opened in a print layout format.

Handouts and a PowerPoint created in support of the Edexcel AS Level unit: The Unification of Italy, 1830-1870. Included are two blank revision diagrams to allow students to write notes in an ordered way on the 1848 revolutions and why they failed. Ideally this would be blown up to A3 and a map of Italy has been included for reference. Also included is a detailed, completed copy of the 'events' handout using a number of text books. Lower ability students could be given this to support note taking or this could be shown on a projector and talked through in class. I have also included a PowerPoint presentation that can be used as a walkthrough during a lesson on this topic. Please note that as this is an independent learning lesson, the PowerPoint presentation is used for guidance, it does not include all of the answers!

KS3 assessment material on Cromwell, including a source sheet, instructions for pupils and a marking grid. Also included is an analysis/evaluation template that is useful to get the class started on the assessment. I usually go through one of the sources in class and fill in the grid in the lesson, then have the group turn it into an essay along with the rest of the sources. Can be differentiated by reducing the number of sources to 3 or by adding more descriptions to the material. Alternatively, for high achievers you could encourage them to find similarities/differences between the sources and add these in to the essay.

A full lesson's work on the Industrial Revolution. This can be used as an introductory lesson on a much larger unit of work, or could be a stand-alone lesson. Included is a PowerPoint presentation that can be worked through. The timeline cards can be cut out and laminated. Then, give out to students and have them move around the room to find other pupils with corresponding cards (there should be three for each category). Then have them put themselves in order: 1750-->1900. There is also another timeline task where students can colour-code the dates based on each theme. They then need to identify the most important category and any turning points.

Resources relating to the AQA 9-1 GCSE Option ‘Elizabethan England: 1568-1603’. Included are 2-4 lessons’ worth of activities tackling Elizabeth’s government (Privy Council, Royal Court and Parliament) The PowerPoint includes teaching information, copies of the worksheets, sources and videos (where relevant). There are also practice exam questions included in the slide (usually 1-2 per topic). This is part of a larger bundle covering the entire unit, which can be purchased from my shop. This resource was originally designed for OneNote teaching; however, it can easily be adapted to exercise book teaching in under 5mins. Simply change the phrase ‘in OneNote’ to ‘in your exercise books’ on the PowerPoint. The course textbook from Hodder is required to go along with this PowerPoint.

Resources relating to the AQA 9-1 GCSE Option ‘Russia, 1894-1945’. Included is 1-2 lessons’ worth of activities exploring Stalin’s Five-Year Plans and their impact on the Soviet Union. The PowerPoint includes teaching information, copies of the worksheets, sources and videos (where relevant). There are also practice exam questions included in the slide (usually 1-2 per topic). This is part of a larger bundle covering the entire unit, which can be purchased from my shop. This resource was originally designed for OneNote teaching; however, it can easily be adapted to exercise book teaching in under 5mins. Simply change the phrase ‘in OneNote’ to ‘in your exercise books’ on the PowerPoint. The ‘Understanding the Modern World’ course textbook from Hodder is needed to access some of the activities (however, alternatives can no doubt be found).

A full week/two weeks of resources for teaching the Scramble for Africa to Year 9 (could also be adapted for a more-able Year 8 class, if pursuing a three-year GCSE course). This is part of a wider ‘Empires and Migration’ topic. Included is a lesson pack covering this aspect of a scaffolded ‘Empires and Migration’ topic (brought down from GCSE - other lesson packs available on my shop!) Each lesson pack includes a PowerPoint (with integrated videos, worksheet screenshots and activities), individual worksheets and contemporary sources (where required) These resources were originally designed for paperless teaching on OneNote; however, it will work perfectly for exercise book teaching (simply replace ‘on OneNote’ with ‘in your exercise books’ on the slides). The Oxford and Hodder ‘Empires and Migration’ textbooks are needed to teach some aspects of this range of resources! (However, these are not widely used and activities could easily be adapted).

A useful lesson starter and class task on the D Day landings. Students are given a selection of images and they must first try to work out what is going on in each (all images from WikiCommons). Then, after a class discussion, they need to try to put them in the correct order. Once finished, they can try to match them up and rearrange the events on the PowerPoint presentation, before sticking/writing into their books. A map of the D Day landings has also been included, to be used alongside the questions from the PowerPoint. This is a useful introduction to D Day and can be used as a springboard for further tasks.

A number of worksheets focusing on the war in the air and the Battle of Britain. The PowerPoint can be used as a starter activity: students are given a poster showing British and German planes (in pairs); they must hold up coloured pages (from planners) to decide whether the plane on the board is British or German. There are then a number of questions based on the Battle of Britain map that has been included, along with a source analysis of the War in the Air.

A full week/two weeks of resources for teaching the end of the First World War to Year 9 (could also be adapted for a more-able Year 8 class, if pursuing a three-year GCSE course). Detailed diagrams explaining Marxism and the various opposition groups that emerged before 1905. Also included are handouts on early opposition to Alexander II, Alexander III and Nicholas II. These resources would be really useful for A Level courses dealing with any period between 1855 and 1905.

Various resources to aid A Level (or GCSE) teaching of the East Anglian Witchcraze. This was designed for the OCR Unit 3 topic: Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 16th and 17th Centuries. Students may need to use either the Hodder or Pearson text books to complete one of the worksheets on the causes of the hunts; however, everything else can be used independently. Included are: information sheets on the hunts a sorting activity focusing on the causes of the hunts revision sheets extracts from Hopkins' book where he responds to John Gaule's criticisms a biography worksheet for students to complete using their own research

A selection of exam questions based on the four chapters/sections of the Hodder Restoration England GCSE from AQA. Some of these have come from the specimen papers on the AQA website, whereas others have been created by me (DISCLAIMER: THESE QUESTIONS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS A PRECISE REFLECTION OF WHAT COULD COME UP IN THE EXAM!) I have also given examples based on the Royal Observatory Environment Study.
