This power point offers the most important bits to deliver the lessons in unit 7H Materials from the Earth in Exploring Science Coursebook. It could be used for revision of the properties of rocks and weathering. I hope it helps.

KS3 Science (Y8) Syllabus Overview

(0)
Roadmap to show the year overview in Science Y8 following CIE Checkpoint. I use it as a poster so that students can follow the scheme of work for the school year in a simplistic way. The traffic lights (end of unit tests) show the unit number with a colour code depending on the science. I have included a printable version and an editable version so that it can be tailored to fit other textbooks. Feedback would be very appreciated as I would like it to be useful for my students so if you find something wrong or missing do let me know.
Science Icebreaker Activity KS3

Science Icebreaker Activity KS3

(0)
The objective of this activity is to introduce students to science while fostering team collaboration and getting to know each other. Divide the group and give them the science-themed question cards, students will work together in groups to answer questions and share their responses, simultaneously introducing themselves to their peers and teacher. The resources include the power point presentation I follow on my first day of Science so that I set expectations for they year and an icebreaker activity. All resources are editable for you to add or remove items and customise it for your needs.

Rate of chemical reactions KS3 SCIENCE

This is a resource I created for my year 9s so that I can guide them during a couple of lessons through the creation of a mind map to collect the most important information to understand how the rates of reaction are affected by different variables. This resource includes: the power point that slowly creates the mind map, the full mind map in the last slides two printable versions (complete and with blanks for them to fill the gaps)
KS3 Chemistry Revision Guide

KS3 Chemistry Revision Guide

This is a revision guide that covers the key ideas and concepts in clear notes for your Chemistry KS3 students. I use them to guide revision sessions in year 8 and I also give them to students to help them revise independently. It includes these topics: • States of matter: particle theory, diffusion, and gas pressure. • Elements and compounds: atoms and elements, periodic table, compounds, formulae • Mixtures: compounds and mixtures, separating mixtures, chromatography, solutions, solubility. • Investigations: variables and graphs. 4 files are included: • Power point with the revision guide (fully editable) and a pdf to print it. • Power point with the revision guide without colours (fully editable) and a pdf to print it in a more environmentally friendly way. Feel free to contact me if you have any doubt.

KS3 SCIENCE LAB ACTIVITIES

KS3 SCIENCE LAB ACTIVITIES

(1)
Everything you need to deliver 9 Science practical activities in Year 8. Three Biology practicals, three Chemistry practicals and 3 for Physics. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7 and 9. Some would also be suitable in GCSE. The slides for each activity include the apparatus needed, method and results. I have been using most of these activities in KS3 for several courses now and they work very well, they are one hour long approximately. They can also be performed as demonstrations. Proper use of the microscope. Growing bacteria. This is one of my favourite activities because they enjoy it a lot. Virtual experiment on disease transmission. This simply follows a video in the Cambridge Hub where you can find many others that can be used for distance learning or if labs are not available. Temperature and solubility. Investigation on how temperature affects the solubility of salt in water. Investigating water. The students work out the amount of salt in two different water samples. Chromatography of ink Testing insulation. Investigation on which is the best material for insulating walls. Conduction star. Investigation on which metal is the best heat conductor. Cooling wax activity to study the freezing point of wax. Coincides with Exploring Science textbook/scheme of work, but can be used alongside any other SOW. Technician notes and basic risk assessment are included for all practical activities in an excel document and two word docs. All pictures have been sourced from the creative commons website. Please, DM me if you have any doubt. Constructive feedback would be much appreciated.
STATES OF MATTER LESSONS AND PRACTICALS

STATES OF MATTER LESSONS AND PRACTICALS

Everything you need to deliver the Chemistry unit of “States of Matter” for Year 8. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7 and 9, and for a distance learning approach. Clear learning objectives for the different parts of the unit and many diagrams included for a better understanding. The topic is divided in 7 parts: Particle Theory: learning objectives, revision activity that summarises the particle theory with 4 questions as plenary + changing state revision lesson with an activity that gives an opportunity for differentiation. Changing state with learning objectives and a slide with a big explanation with diagrams and an activity with differentiation. Diffusion: learning objectives, lesson in one slide + mini plenary based on a video from “fuse school” Investigating Diffusion: 3 activities. The first two explore the factors that affect the rate of diffusion and can be followed with or without lab practical so that it can also be easily done in online learning. The last activity is a complete practical procedure but there is a slide included with possible results if the lab cannot be used or for distance learning. Exit ticket as a plenary for diffusion. Brownian motion: video with instructions to follow Gas pressure: learning objectives, 2 slides with explanations and a plenary activity. End of unit questions: 3 activities with several questions. Answers included in the notes. Revision: 20 minutes of revision activities + slides to check the proper answers. It can be used as a revision or assessment Several slides contain some notes with suggestions for the lessons such as starters, opportunities for differentiation or suggested practice. Coincides with Cambridge Checkpoint textbook/scheme of work, but can be used alongside any other SOW. Everything you need to deliver three practical activities in year 8 for Diffusion. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7 and 9. The slides for each activity include the apparatus needed, method, results and conclusion/evaluation. They can also be performed as demonstrations and one of them can be used in distance learning. Perfume is in the air. This practical can be done in the lab or sent to do it at home in a distance learning approach as little material is needed. It can also be shown as a demonstration. Showing diffusion in jelly: everything you need to deliver this practical. Some results are also included for distance learning. Temperature and diffusion: everything you need to deliver this practical. Some results are also included for distance learning. An excel document is included with technician details and basic risk assessment. In the notes you will find some info/answers. They coincide with Cambridge Science textbook/scheme of work, but can be used alongside any other SOW. All pictures have been sourced from the creative commons website. Please, contact me if you have any doubt. Constructive feedback would be much appreciated!
