This is a lesson focussed on the causes, impacts and solutions of ocean plastic. The lesson focusses on a local example of beach litter also. The lesson includes: starter resource on plastic decomposition Youtube and Blue Planet videos embedded into the powerpoint ‘Ocean Plastic Detectives’ information hunt activity (information sheets and worksheets included) An extended writing task, writing a persuasive letter to the local council regarding the issues and solutions to the problem of ocean plastic and beach litter. Opportunity for pair work (letter and campaign poster) Writing frame for the letter is included. This was designed as a ‘Local Issue’ KS3 lesson but could easily be ammended for integration within your unit of study/SOW, for an extracurricular group or towards the end of term. I hope that your students enjoy this lesson and that this can save you some valuable planning time.

This is a standalone lesson focused on the Willow Project. It was taught at the end of a KS3 Climate Change unit and incorporated due to high levels of student interest / inquisition about the issue. The lesson includes: Background information/ context about the Willow Project Embedded TikTok videos (used as they are informative and engaging short clips on a platform relevant to the students) Positive / Negative, S.E.E Impact activity with accompanying Stretch and Challenge Extension task. Diamond 9 impact assessment task. QR codes linked to two petitions Campaigning for Change creative option task where students can either choose to create a protest poster about the project or write a letter to the government explaining their view on the project. Both activities supported with success criteria. A concluding, positive video from David Attenborough about how we are powerful enough to change the world for the better. Urban Land Use- DME Site Choice

This is a groupwork based lesson, focussed on the different zones of land use and identifying factors of a preferred site/settlement for members of the Griffin family. The lesson includes: ‘Odd one out’ Starter Activity Considering multiple settlement requirements from varied perspectives. Site info handout and accompanying DME matrix. An extended writing task, centred around creating a report/ email/ leaflet etc, which could be a homework project/ peer assessment opportunity. A Success Criteria / Feedback sheet is paired with this. Stretch and challenge opportunities throughout, sentence starters and WAGOLLS. It is designed for a KS3 class as part of a Settlement/ Urban Environment unit and is preceeded by lessons covering site/ settlement factors, types of settlement and the Burgess/ Hoyt model. Could also be an opportunity for map skills/ use of IT/ google maps & earth to explore the maps I made and play about with measuring the distances / features etc. I hope that your students enjoy this lesson and that this can save you some valuable planning time. This is an editable vocAPPulary activity for covering subject specific vocabulary. The students write the definition in the first box, then draw an image (dual code) or diagram for the word. How Gender Equality Increases Development

This KS3 lesson looks at how gender equality can increase development. Tasks are explicit throughout the slides and the work is differentiated and offers stretch and challenge tasks. ICAN Bingo: Pupils note down 6 words from the list, the word has to be said by the teacher and on the board at the time for them to cross it off of the list. The winners go onto a leaderboard and a prize is awarded at the end of term. The lesson includes focus on Malala Yousafzai and her role in campaigning for gender equality and education. -The World’s Largest Lesson ‘From Where I stand’ resources are used in this lesson.- There is a guided reading activity included (extract and questions not my own), a data research homework and opportunity for data manipulation and presentation skills to be taught.
