This lesson introduces ideas about the nature of Allah and the Oneness of Allah (Tawhid). The pupils will have to define oneness and explain its relevance and application to the Islamic ideas of Allah. Analysis of scripture is included. Pupils will understand shirk and its severity in a modern society. There is an interactive plenary which has pupils review the content in the lesson and summarise it using pop culture. The starter compares Jesus to Superman in an attempt to get pupils to see Jesus in a more modern light, in hope that they will be more engaged throughout the rest of the lesson when engaging in more specific content. To be utilised with a main activity that will discuss Jesus role in bridging the gap between Man and God by paying the price for the sins of humanity. A starter activity for introducing the Shia and Sunni Muslim divide. Pupils will discuss and justify reasons for succession with regards to pop culture (pop icons have been given as examples based on popularity, success and family ties). This can be related to a main body of content explaining the similar types of discussions Muslims had when discussing the successor of the Muhammad. Extra resource material has been included to assist in creating a main task relating to this starter.
