This single phonics pack focuses on initial consonant blend ‘st’ CCVC words. A progression from CVC and CCV to CCVC Phase 4: Letters and Sounds Phonics. Aimed at: Early Years and keystage 1, SEND and ESL/EFL students. It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends. This pack contains: Flexible Lesson Plan with learning objectives, lesson starter, main activities and plenary - You can choose which parts are relevant to your class. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the plan. **This product has been updated with teacher notes on suggested activities, worksheets and black and white pictures for more initial consonant blend activities. ** There are 3 sets of pictures for each initial consonant blend. One set has highlighted initial blends. Optional: Print out onto card paper/good quality paper, laminate and cut out the pictures and words. Content: Teacher Notes on suggested activities 3 Sets of initial consonant blend pictures with words (one set has highlighted initial blends) 64 black and white pictures relating to initial consonant blends 3 Worksheets - children trace over initial blends and then write in the correct blends to finish incomplete words. 2 Cut/paste worksheet activities - children trace over blends and then write in correct blends to finish incomplete words. Lastly, they cut out the pictures and glue to match the correct completed words. Other Suggested Activities: Pictures only - Mix up different pictures and ask students to find the picture that starts with, e.g. br. Words only - Mix up different words and ask students to sound out the word and/or draw a picture for it. Extension - write sentences. Pictures and words - Mix up different pictures and words for students to match up correctly. Make a word wall using the initial highlighted words as a visual reminder. With the black and white pictures, you can reduce on the copier or leave as is to glue into workbooks. Leave out some words for the children to find the correct word to match the picture in their workbooks. As an extension they can write a sentence using that word. This resource relates to matching a mixture of CVC words to pictures. Learning aims: To read and match CVC words to pictures by segmenting and blending. There are two parts to this resource: 1. Play as a game to practise blending and segmenting; 2. For the teacher to assess children's progress in reading CVC words. This product contains: - Teachers' Notes on suggested activities - 8 phonic CVC Phonic Boards 1 to 8 containing clipart pictures - 72 word cards - 24 alien words/pseudo-words - 8 Phonic CVC Screening Check Sheets The boards are colour-coded with the word cards. On each board there are 9 cvc pictures and 3 alien pictures. There are 9 real word cards and 3 alien/pseudo-words for each picture board. Learn to read consonant, vowel, consonant(cvc) words via games - children choose any board number (Board 1 to Board 8) which are colour-coded with the word cards, e.g. Board 1 (yellow) with yellow word cards. H/she chooses a board and read the word on the card and cover the picture that matches the word. The alien pictures can be covered with any of the pseudo-word cards. Children can play in twos/threes - choose the colour of their boards and word cards. Shuffle the set of word cards and lay them face down on the table. They take turns turning over a card. If a card matches their board colour, s/he reads the word and covers the picture for that word. If the colour does not match or s/he cannot read the word, the word card is put back face down on the table. Using the word cards only - shuffle a selection of cards and the child reads as many words as s/he can. Additional use to check progress: For the teacher/assistant - Optional 8 Phonics screening check sheets - On each sheet there is a list of words that correspond to the set of word cards. Select a set of cards and as the child reads each card you complete the phonics screening sheet. Please see preview pane of a completed phonic board with cards. Worksheets relating to cvc words. A lovely addition to your phonics lesson to support phonic work. Aimed at: Reception/Year 1. It consists of 2 sets of 54 worksheets together with picture and word cards in colour and black and white. Teacher's Notes included for suggested activities. Children look at the picture and say what it is. Then they colour in the letters that make that word. When they have coloured in the letter, the children rearrange them to spell the word and write it on the handwriting guide line. If some children get stuck, I have included words cards with the same pictures which you can put in the middle of the table for the children to find that matching picture that is also on the worksheet. With the help of the card, children can colour in the correct letters on the worksheet. Please see Preview pane. This product relates to learning the alphabet names and sounds and upper and lower cases letters. Learning objectives are to develop children’s knowledge of upper and lower letters of the alphabet and begin to learn alphabetical order. Reinforcement of what the children have learnt: There is a selection of alphabet gap-filling strips from easy to challenging. Cut out the gap-filling alphabet strips and stick into workbooks; and/or Laminate for continuous use There are 26 upper and lower letters for the children to cut out each time you focus on a letter. This product relates to final consonant blends activities and contains: • 160 Flashcards (2 Sets) • Set of Consonant Endings Blend Cards • Set of Beginning Words Card and a Set of Endings Blends • Recording Worksheet • 3 Worksheets Ending/final consonant blends: ct lf ft ld lk lp lt pt mp nd nk nt sk sp st A. 160 Flash cards (Whole page size) Print off and laminate the flashcards you need for your lesson. You can display flashcards around the classroom as visual reference for the children. B. Set of Consonant Endings Blend Cards Small endings blend cards for small group activities. Students can practise saying the graphemes and clap each letter. You could ask what letters the students could put before the consonant blends to make a word. Some students might remember the flashcards you showed earlier in the lesson. For example, you can put ‘a’ before ‘ct’ to make the word ‘act’. You can select easier cards such as ‘e’ and ‘nd’ ‘end’ or ‘o’ and ‘ld’ for old, ‘e’ and ‘lk’ for ‘elk’ or ‘lf’ for ‘elf’. Practise writing the graphemes on handwriting paper. C. Set of Beginning Words Card for activity and a set of Endings Blends for activity These are the words on the flashcards that have been separated for this activity. Ideally laminate these cards and then cut apart. This is a word making activity and you can choose either cursive or non-cursive cards. Whatever level your students are at, you can select the beginning words and endings blends cards and put a selection on the tables. Students practise making words with the selected cards. After practising, they can list the words they have made on the Recording Worksheet. D. 3 Ready-made making words Worksheets There are three ready-made worksheets which replicates the above activity. The images of the two sets of cards are in separate boxes. Students choose one of the starting words in the box and the consonant ending blends in the other box in order to make a word. Students write the word out. The last activity is to choose one word and write a sentence with it. E. Playing a matching game You may have to print out some beginning and endings blends more than once to make different words, e.g. be st be nd se nd. You decide on how many words you want the students to make. Lay out a selection of beginning and ending words in to two piles face down. 1st player chooses a beginning word and an ending word, if they match to make a word he/she keeps them. A lovely addition to work on weather and seasons. The worksheets contain facts about snow, sleet and hail which the children will enjoy reading about. All the worksheets are on PPT and pdf. So you can pre-teach any vocabulary. In the gap-filling tasks, students work in pairs and have to work together to complete their respective worksheets. <strong>This resource comprises:</strong> • two non-fiction reading comprehensions plus questions. • two gap-filling exercises – Pair work collaboration is required. <strong>How we get snow and sleet - Reading comprehension</strong> Students read the text and answer 5 questions. They look for the answers in the text, tick correct statements and write full answers. Gap-filling activity – Students work in pairs to complete the missing information in Worksheet A and Worksheet B. Partner A will have worksheet A and Partner B will have worksheet B. In order to complete their worksheets, the students will have to read together to fill in the missing words on their respective worksheets. <strong>How we get hail - Reading comprehension</Strong> Students read the text and answer 5 questions. Students are required to look for the answers in the text, tick true or false statements and say why, write full answers and make a list. Gap-filling activity – Students work in pairs to complete the missing information in Worksheet A and Worksheet B. As above, Partner A will have worksheet A and Partner B will have worksheet B. This product is on the topic of All About Me. Aimed at: Reception/Year1 and Year 2. Use for ESL/EFL students for speaking about themselves and about other people. <strong>Content:</strong> • Teacher Notes (2 pages) • 42 Question Cards (colour and plain background) – Laminate and cut out • Rules for whole class activities using the question cards • Digit cards 1 – 32 (patterned and plain): Laminate and cut out • Worksheet (1 page) • Blank question and digit cards for your use **The question cards can be used in various ways. ** This is option 2. Arrange students in a semi-circle. Whole class activity – Laminate and cut out the flashcard numbers and randomly hand them out to the students. Print, laminate and cut out the question cards and place a selection in the centre. You select a question card and then to choose a student to answer the question, say ‘I want whoever has number 7 to answer the question.’ The student that has card number 7 answers the question. If you would like other students to answer the same question, then just say e.g. ‘I want whoever has card number, e.g. 23, to answer the same question.’ Depending on timing, you can decide on how many questions to select from the pack. It’s Halloween! Children will have fun playing bingo, snap, memory games and other games with this resource. x30 Bingo Cards numbered 1 to 30 - 12 pictures on each card All the bingo cards are different. It can be played as a whole class or in small groups. Children can dab or cross off a picture that they have with a dry-wipe pen or place a counter on their picture. 36 Calling cards with words and pictures. For Snap! Make extra copies of the calling cards for students to play Snap! Memory Match Game: Photocopy two sets of the calling cards and then lay out a selection of the cards face down on the table. Players take turns to pick up two cards. If the cards match, the player keeps the two. If the two cards do not match, the player returns the cards to the same position they were in face down. The players have to try and remember where the cards are. This product is in PowerPoint and PDF format. It has a multipurpose use and comes in plain white and 7 other colours. Optional: Print off on card paper and laminate. The cards are designed with handwriting lines, single writing line and blank white background. Suggest uses: It can be used as name tags Practising letters and numbers Use to group tables by using the colour border of the cards. Very handy if you have a cover teacher and he/she does not know where certain students sit. You can tell the cover teacher what colour cards to use. You can print off the PDF format and write in your text; or Use PowerPoint to type in your text into the blank space - Use Insert Text Box. This resource relates to St. David’s Day celebrated on 1 March. An editable presentation on the facts of Saint David/Saint David’s Day which can be used in assembly or as a lesson. Content: A Presentation (55 Slides) on facts about St. David and how the day is celebrated. There are questions and answers throughout the presentation to involve the children. Questions to recap on what they have learnt. It is divided into sections:- Background to St. David’s life Connection between Wales and Argentina Myths and legends - E.g. This resource relates to the church and its features and contains mini fact word cards to display and can also be used as flash cards. A lovely addition to my Visiting a Place of Worship. In addition to the word cards, there are worksheet activities. Content: Teacher’s Notes - Describes activities in detail. 2x sets of 35 word wall cards which you can laminate for durability and display on your classroom wall. They can also be used as flash cards to increase students’ vocabulary. 2x Write the room activity worksheets and corresponding number tiles. The church objects on the worksheets are numbered 1 to 8. Preparation: You will need 8 of the word wall cards to place around the classroom. Ensure the numbers on the cards match the numbered pictures on the worksheets. Write the Room Worksheet 1 Font 2. Cross 3. Bible 4. Chalice Write the Room Worksheet 2 5. Pews 6. Church 7. Ciborium 8. Pulpit There are number tiles 1 to 8 which you can laminate. 2x Match and Stick Activity Sheets – There are 8 pictures and words to match up and stick on the worksheets provided. There are extra word tiles for bread – unleavened bread, wafer and host. Use blu tack/double-side tape and place the numbers on the word card. Students move around the classroom with their worksheet and match the number on their worksheet to the number on the word wall card. So, next to number 5, the student will write ‘Pews’ on their worksheet. Tick and sort worksheet activity with extension for more able students. There are 8 pictures of which 4 of the pictures relate to Christianity. Students tick and colour the pictures that relate to Christianity. For extension: The pictures that do not belong to Christianity, students could say or write what religion they pictures relate to. (Answer Sheet included) Please see Preview Pane. This resource contains a set of 26 uppercase letters containing 2D shapes. Alphabet mats for each letter with pictures beginning with the letter sound. If you are teaching or have taught uppercase letters and 2D shapes, here are some extra resources for your pupils to colour in and/or cut out and stick into their workbooks or on a separate sheet of paper. The letters are on whole pages in two sizes - A4 and 8.5 x 11". Suggested Uses: Children colour in the shapes and the background and then they can draw things beginning with that letter. Children colour in the shapes only and then cut around the letter and stick into their workbook. You could cut out the letter and stick into their workbooks or on a separate sheet of paper with handwriting guidelines for children to practise writing the letter and then colour in. Extension: after colouring in the letter, children can list the shapes they see and the more able can put them into ABC order. Laminate the upper case alphabet mats for children to use playdough to model the letters. 2D Shapes: square, circle, triangle, oval, rectangle, diamond, star, heart, crescent, pentagon and trapezium or trapezoid.
