Differentiated Worksheets - Unscramble the four cities and correctly match them to the countries.
There is basic information on the UK and the development of the UK flag together with worksheets. Please adapt to suit lessons.
The cut/paste activity has been taken from Curriculum Bank (Scholastics) - Geography KS1 Text.
I have not included Southern Ireland as part of the UK. The location of Southern Ireland is shown so that educators and children can see where Northern Ireland is located.
New editable worksheets added and Presentation
There is some basic information about the Crimean War - opportunity for children to research more and how it prompted two pioneering nurses to go to the Crimea to use their nursing skills.
Please adapt Information Sheet to suit needs of pupils to complete the missing information in Worksheet 1.
Worksheet 2 is Cross-curricula - Geography link - See how many countries the chn can label by comparing Worksheet 2 with labelled map of the world.
Literacy link - children choose adjectives to describe the nurses and write sentence using 'because'.
This resource comprises 5 worksheets on the water cycle and a missing jigsaw activity.
The worksheets are also on PowerPoint and PDF format.
These are additional worksheets you can give out during the lesson, use as assessment on the water cycle or as homework.
Two worksheets require students to write about the water cycle in their own words.
Three worksheets entail cut and paste activities. The simpler activities are cutting out the word strips and glue them onto the correct blank space to show the water cycle process.
The other cut and paste activity requires students to write the title in their workbooks or on a separate sheet of paper. Then they write about each word, cut out the strip and glue it into their workbooks. Some students may only be able to complete 4 strips. Let them choose a word to write about.
Once the students have written something about each word, they can draw a picture for each strip.
There is a jigsaw puzzle to complete. It has 4 pieces missing with which students complete the puzzle picture of the water cycle. When this is completed, student cut out and stick the labels into the correct spaces on the completed puzzle. A finished puzzle is included to how the puzzle should look. NB: The picture was drawn on the computer and coloured in by hand.
Missing Jigsaw Puzzle pieces (b/w) – Print off the page with just one puzzle piece in place. Students complete the whole puzzle by cutting out the rest of the puzzles (8 pieces) and sticking them in place to complete the water cycle picture. Then as above, cut out the words and glue beneath the correct picture, e.g. precipitation would go beneath the rain cloud.
Students can then colour in.

The pack consists of:
-Sound and how sound travels including sound waves, vibrations, pitch, volume;
-The sounds we can make with our voices and what happens;
-How we hear;
-How some animals hear;
-How to get sound from different musical instruments and what happens; and
-The type of listening devices we use to locate sound, stethoscopes, hearing aids etc.

Lesson 1: This is about how we use our voice and the different sounds we make. There is a diagram of how our voice works which includes vibration, pitch and how we need our teeth and tongue to produce sounds.
Activity: students are given a very short text to add vocal sound effects to in their groups - narrator/reader reads the short text (print this off the Slide) and the other students decide on vocal sound effects to add.
Lesson 2:- This is about musical instruments and how we produce sound from them (bang, hit, shake, pluck etc.) and group them into their categories (wind, stringed, percussion)- Grouping Activity sheets and Listening activity.
Lesson 3 - This is more practical and students plan and design their musical instruments. They are given ideas on what to do, e.g. make a guitar from cereal boxes, the handle is made of kitchen towel tube, strings are various sizes of elastic bands etc.
Lesson 4: This is about how we ear (also video youtube link - Children learn about the anatomy of the ear (outer ear, middle ear and inner ear) and how we receive and process sound. They also learn about why we get dizzy (semi-circular canals in our ear is filled with fluid).
There are worksheet activities and Listening activities on PowerPoint Presentations.
Lesson 5: This lesson is about different listening devices such as the stethoscope, ear trumpets that were used in the past and versions of it that are used to hear unborn babies. Students: make ear trumpets and pot telephones learning how sound travels to the ear via the string attached to the plastic cups. Students test different cups and length of strings.
Lesson 6: This lesson is about how some animals move their ears to hear sounds and locate their prey. - Activities: Students work with a partner to complete their worksheets with missing words.

The Teacher’s Note sets out how you can introduce the topic and suggestions on how to organize the activities and list resources needed.
You can organize a carousel system - so each table deals with a different aspect on sound or you can do a whole class lesson on one aspect of sound week by week, ending the term on a sound carousel for assessment.

Experiments include:
Vibration involving moving objects- e.g. students can experiment with a tuning forks and water and ping pong balls, rice on drums.
Sound and Pitch - e.g. use empty bottles filled with different levels of liquid to produce different pitches and also blow horizontally along the edge to produce sounds similar to wind instruments; and/or experiment with guitar strings –shortening and lengthening the string to produce different sounds;
Listening devices - experiment with different string telephones by changing variables such as type of string and material of cups;
Blocking Out Sound activities- students can make ear defenders out of margarine tubs packed with different materials or they can wrap the sound source like a buzzer or alarm clock with different materials to see which is best at muffling the sound.
Optional - Musical Instruments - Students can make musical instruments or use the ones they may have made in previous lessons - to adjust how they use it or even make it better - can experiment with various aspects of sound.
Outside activity - How sound gets fainter as you travel further away - Use a sound source like a buzzer.
There are instructions to make a simple balloon drum, a packing tape drum, comb kazoo and a guitar.

This resource pack contains a blank weather, date and year display poster to be completed each day using the changeable days, date, month, weather card displays.
The words in shadow show where the laminated day, date, month and year should go.
There is space for the weather conditions on the same blank display.
The preview window shows how the display will appear when you complete the blank display poster.
You can also change the weather button background if you don’t want plain white - click on, e.g. the ‘hot’ weather button, go to Drawing Tools then Shape Fill to choose your colour.
Print off displays onto card paper - enlarge to A3 if wish for a larger display.

The Lesson Plan includes learning objectives and outcomes and PowerPoint Slides numbers are referred to. The lesson starts off briefly reviewing the water cycle and then leads onto types of clouds and the sort of weather we may experience.
The PowerPoint Presentation explains how the clouds are formed, their features and there are photographs/pictures of the common type of clouds children may recognize in the sky. They even learn about how snow is formed and then falls as either snowflakes or sleet.
The Presentation a video link relating to clouds which children will enjoy watching. (5:42 mins long).
Presentation 2 - Provides helpful information for children to review water cycle vocabulary, meaning of cloud names and explains that cloud coverage is measured in oktas.
Differentiated Cloud Wheel Template: Children make a Cloud Wheel to be used in the last part of the lesson.
There is an example of a Cloud Wheel I made to show the children.

9 Worksheets: The more able students can complete the whole page worksheets. They write one or more facts about the instrument shown. Their writing should contain a lot more detail which they can obtain from the factsheets.
Activity 1 - Cut out lined strips with picture of weather instrument: For students who can write one or two sentences about the weather instrument. Write the instrument and a sentence about it.
Activity 2 – Read and match, cut and glue activity: Each strip of paper has a picture of a weather instrument and on a separate bit of paper is a description of an instrument. Students read the description of an instrument and then glue it to the correct picture on the strip of paper.
