This Christmas themed worksheets resource relates to money using the 1p, 5p, 10p, 20p coins and for the more able students 50p, £1 and £2 coins. ANSWERS provided New £1 coin Includes worksheet on receiving change from £2.00 Can use as assessment and revision. Aimed: Keystage 1/Lower Keystage 2, SEND and ESL Students learning about English coins. File Type: Word and pdf. Set in the context of a Christmas Fayre -Children work out how much change they would receive if they were to buy the items on the Christmas stall. Please note it is a two-step process whereby children use their observational skill to look for the price of each item and then work out the change from each coin. They look at the prices of the Christmas items and then work out the change. They can use any method -e.g. number lines, hundred square, counting from/back - check to ensure they are using money symbols. This resource focuses on repeated patterns using Christmas patterns and shapes. Students can practise creating their own Christmas patterns. Teacher’s Notes describes the lesson which you can choose to make it last throughout the whole morning or afternoon or 1 hour session. Content: 50 numbered Task cards Answer Key Recording Sheet Money Reference Sheet There are two task cards to a page. The task is in two parts: • First students add up the coins/money in the first column and write the price of the item. • The middle column shows the money used to pay for the item. • Students work out the change using whichever method they are comfortable with and then write the change given in the last column. The recording sheet can be used to write the date each card was completed. Great for early finishers and/or you want to review money with your students. This resource is on US currency - pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollar and one dollar bill. The worksheets are in color and black and white. WITH ANSWER KEYS Each of the four worksheets contain a variety of tasks for students to complete on the topic of buying school supplies/stationery. Worksheet 1 - Students look at the pictures and price of each item and then work out how much two items of school supplies cost. Two questions at the bottom: Which student spent the most? Which student spent the least amount of money? Worksheet 2 - This worksheet is similar to the above except students are working out what 3 items of school supplies cost. Worksheet 3 - Students answer 6 questions about the items, e.g. Which item is the most expensive? How much less do the crayons cost than the ruler? etc. The next task is to write the new price for each item which has risen by 9c. Worksheet 4 - The first task is to write the new price of the items which have risen by 20c. Second task - to add up 3 items of school supplies at the new price. Worksheet 5 - Sale Now On! - Students recalculate the new price of each item because they have been reduced. (Subtraction). Additional worksheets: Drawing coins to match the price tags - Students use the fewest number of coins as many times as they can. Add coins and write the total on the price tag for each item shown. This resource relates to statistics on the topic of dot plots. It introduces dot plots on PowerPoint (12 Slides). The presentation demonstrates how the data was collected, rearranging data in numerical order, and presenting the data on a frequency table. Using the information on the frequency table, students are shown how to create a dot plot/line plot via Slide Show animation. Two detailed examples are shown. Content: PowerPoint Presentation Worksheets Answer Sheets which you can laminate and cut into cards Teacher Notes PowerPoint Presentation 8 Slides (Slide Show Mode for animation) Use the presentation as a whole class activity and go through suggested examples of how students can work through two step problems. Students can even work through one of the worksheet activities displayed on the PowerPoint and then share their solutions. Worksheet activities If you are looking to introduce your students to two-step addition and subtraction problems then these worksheets are suitable just to ease the students in. There are no trick word problems. There is an opportunity for students to use their own methods of solving the questions and share with the class. Other Suggested Uses You can use the activity sheets in small group work and one-to-one teaching. You can use manipulatives to explain the problem and highlight what needs to be written down to solve the two-step equations. For example, Activity 35: use real paper to solve how many sheets of paper are left in the school secretary’s printer. Early Finishers Use the worksheets as an extension to your lesson on two-step math problems. Aimed at: Reception/Year 1 If you operate a carousel system in your class, you can place the different activities on the tables for children to practise number work/patterns. Content and Description Includes Teacher Notes • Counting in ones missing number sequence worksheet – Children complete sequence by writing the missing numbers in the heart. • Number bonds to 10 and 20 - x2 sets of worksheets – this is a cut and stick activity. Children cut out a broken heart on worksheet 2 to match and stick to a broken heart on worksheet 1. The hearts add up to 10 on one set of worksheets; and then add up to 20 on the second set of worksheets. • Counting using Tens Frame – Pictures are placed in different positions on the tens frame.
