This resource focuses on repeated patterns using Christmas patterns and shapes. Students can practise creating their own Christmas patterns. Teacher’s Notes describes the lesson which you can choose to make it last throughout the whole morning or afternoon or 1 hour session. Content: PowerPoint Presentation (10 Slides) - Include whole class activities, examples of repeated Christmas patterns, in the Presentation children are asked where they have seen repeated patterns of pictures - they might mention their wallpaper at home, car seat covers, on printed clothes (e.g. socks) etc. Differentiated Activity Sheets 1 and 2 - Complete the sequence of pictures Activity Sheet 1b – Pictures to cut out to complete Activity Sheets Blank Repeating Patterns Worksheets to create own repeating pattern Extension Patterns Worksheet Extension Christmas Shapes New worksheets for early finishers A one hour lesson for children to explore repeating patterns in the context of Christmas. The lesson should last 50 mins to 1 hour depending on how long your students take to design their patterns: Introduction to set the scene: 10-15mins; Main Lesson 15-20 mins; Consolidation of lesson (work at table): 20 mins; and Plenary/Closing session 5-10mins. Bring in some Christmas wrapping paper with repeated patterns of pictures and/or shapes or you can display Slide 1 showing examples of Christmas patterns. **This resource relates to repeated addition and arrays to visualize multiplication. ** Aimed at: Year 1/2 and Lower Keystage 2, and SEND. PowerPoint Presentation (24 Slides) contains: Illustration and explanation of arrays (rows and columns) How we read the arrays What is repeated addition and how it is written (2 + 2 + 2 = 3 lots of 2 = 2 x 3), i.e 2 repeated 3 times. Whole class activity on describing an array on their whiteboards There are 3 worksheets:- Activity 1 (2 pages) - Children write repeated additions for the arrays shown. Children that require support with the activities can write one repeated addition e.g. 2 + 2 + 2 whereas a more able child will be able to write two addition models: 2 + 2 + 2 and 3 + 3. Activity 2 (2 pages) - (Extension) Same as above but the arrays are larger. There is a small section on the worksheets where it asks children to show 3 lots of 4 and then circle the groups. Activity 3 (8 pages)- Cut and Paste activity - The activity involves children cutting out buttons and arranging them in an array according to what is asked in the boxes: e.g. 5 x 2, so the student cuts out 2 lots of 5 buttons (10) and form them in an array, e.g. 5 buttons in a row and 2 columns. Extension for more able: On Activity Sheets 1 and 2 - The children can write the multiplication number sentence inside the box below their repeated additions- 2 + 2 + 2 2 X 3 = 6 3 + 3 3 X 2 = 6 Learning Objectives: To know that multiplication is related to repeated addition To learn that arrays arranged in rows and columns helps us to work out a multiplication sums. This pack relates to euros and euro cents currency. Updated 17 May 2022 to include two versions of the original Presentation and worksheets showing the different ways euros/cents are written. Aimed at KS1/Kindergarten/Grade 1 and ESL/EFL students. The presentation can be used as follow-up to the first pack and builds upon the skills students have learnt previously. It still uses a step-by-step approach to teaching money but using higher value coins. This pack contains: <strong>A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation (53 Slides) - divided into convenient sections. </strong> 1.Reviewing coins and their values, money exchange and using the 50c, €1 and €2 coins. 2. Using €1 and €2 euro coins. Using combination of coins to equal the value of the one euro and two euro coins. 3. Using euros and cents together - this is explained in the presentation with various whole class activities 4. Giving change from €1 and € 2 euro coins. The Presentation also includes whole class activities and different strategies students can use to work out money problems. Students also learn to change, e.g. 125 cents to €1.25/1,25€. **4 Flexible Lesson Plans - contains objectives, plenaries and main lesson. Please note it is a hands on resource and the lesson plan should be used in conjunction with the presentations as there is a lesson starter presentation. It can be used for reviewing tens and ones or teaching it from scratch, so the detailed lesson plan is flexible. Some preparation is needed to carry out the activities such as collection of different coloured straws, elastic bands, suggested materials such as counters, unifix cubes; cut out the 1 digit number tiles for the worksheet or you can get children to select two numbers from a pile, write it down and then describe the place value - see 5. in the list below. It contains lots of practice on place value and partitioning- hands on practice and visual worksheets Aimed at: KS1/2 I have included all the resources you will need but you may wish to use concrete resources such as the tens rods, unit blocks and hundred blocks to complement this resource. **Content: ** • Digit cards 0 to 9 inclusive • Place value grid – 100s, 10s, 1s • Hundreds block in different colours, tens towers and units block (laminate and cut out) for various activities • Title cards – hundreds, tens, units/ones • 4 sets of worksheets that include cut/paste activity Activity 1 (7 differentiated pages) – (cut and paste) The student(s) works out what the number is in the place value grid and then select and cut out the correct answer and stick it onto the blank square. (Option of 3 answers) Activity 2 (4 differentiated pages) The student(s) deciphers the place value grid and then writes what the number is in the blank space. Worksheet (4 differentiated pages) The student(s) draws lines to match the number to the corresponding partitioned numbers. Worksheet (3 differentiated pages) This activity is in a grid or table format. The student(s) writes the partitioned numbers in standard form and then write the number in words: 300 + 40 + 2 342 three hundred and forty-two. Suggested activity with digit cards and hundreds block, tens and ones/units resource (laminate and cut out). Students can work in pairs or in a group. Print out the 3 sets of digit cards 0-9. Shuffle each set and place the sets side by side so that the student can take a card from each pile to make a 3-digit number. When the numbers are selected, s/he then asks another student to select the hundreds, tens, units blocks to partition that number and/or the student can write the value of each number on the place value grid.
