The resource is supplied in Microsoft Word, so it can be easily customised to suit your learners or teaching resources.

The resource contains four pages of information, facts and sources on this topic and one pages of questions and tasks that build up to an assessment essay on this topic. This is a tried and tested resource which will provide your students with a relatively easy opportunity to achieve the highest grades in blooms by demonstrating how different factors are interconnected.

This great resource is designed to help students studying the key reasons why the Native Americans were eventually defeated by the US government. It can be used as a revision activity, starter or plenary for the full range of ability and should work alongside any main stream resource on this topic. If you are looking for some additional challenge, then check out my diamond 9 activity on this topic.
When you purchase this resource, you will be able to download a single page Microsoft Office document, which contains a learning objective, instructions, six heading cards and fourteen statements. Once students have cut out the cards, the sort the statements under the six headings, which include Buffalo, US Army, religion, reservations, Indian Agents. As an extension exercise, students could always prioritise the statements in their order of importance or research and find out some additional information on each topic. Once completed students could use the card sort to write an essay or produce a mind map on the topic.

This great resource is designed to be used as a starter or plenary for students looking at the aims and ideas of Hitler and his Nazi Party in 1933. Its designed to be a quick 10 or 15 minute activity and would be suitable for lower school students studying this topic or foundation students at GCSE or upper school.
Students are given eight headings cards which include Jews, education, opposition, economy, Treaty of Versailles, women, dictatorship and race as well as eight information cards which they need to cut out and match out. I've also included a stretch question on 'pick two of Hitler’s ideas and explain why you think 43.9% of the Germany people would have voted for the Nazi Party in 1933?

This great thinking skills activity is designed to get your students discussing, prioritising and deciding which factors were the most important in helping to explain Hitler’s rise to power. The key theory underpinning this strategy is that when we rank items, either statements, objects or images, we are required to make explicit the over- arching relationships by which we organise our knowledge and connect our learning. If you are looking for a more traditional exercise then please check out my card sort matching exercise on this topic, which can be downloaded from my TES shop. This resource will easily work alongside any main steam textbook or resource on this topic.
The resource includes nine diamond shaped cards which include a range of factors which explain Hitler’s rise to power. The document is provided in Microsoft Word so you can edit the resource if you wish to customise it further by changing any of the key factors that I have included. Once students have cut out the cards out they are set three tasks including:
1. Remove any reasons for Hitler’s rise to power that you don’t think are important. Record and explain why you have removed them.
2. Arrange the reaming diamonds to show any links that you can find between the different reasons. Record and explain your reasons.
3. Make a smaller diamond shape using what you think are the four most important reasons for Hitler’s rise to power. Record and explain your reasons.
At each stage students should be feeding back to their group or the class and explaining their choices. The discussion and explanation around the choices that they have made are critical in helping them develop their understanding of the topic.

This activity is designed to appeal to students of all abilities and has a stretch and challenge question at the end which can be used either as a discussion point or as the focus for a written task.
The resource includes two heading cards which briefly explain what is meant by a Nationalist and Socialist in the context of Germany in the 1920s and 12 statement cards taken from the 25 point programme produced by the new Nazi Party in 1920.

This resource has been designed to help students understand the first hundred days of FDR’s Presidency and how he tackled the underlying causes of the Depression. This resource is suitable for GCSE, but can also be used to give a broad outline A Level students.
The PowerPoint includes aims & objectives, differentiated outcomes, a snowballing starter and information slides on the aims of the New Deal, the Spiral of Depression, FDR’s inauguration speech, Bank Act, Beer Act, Fireside Chats and of course the Alphabet Agencies. I’ve also built in a number of tasks and activities around various sources and video clips as well as several animated diagrams to help explain some of the more difficult economic concepts such as ‘The Spiral of Depression’ and ‘Pump Priming.’
The main task is to complete a review sheet on the action that FDR took during his first 100 days and decide whether his government was providing relief, recovery or reform. To support this activity, I have also produced an information sheet, which can printed off from the PP, on the Alphabet Agencies. The plenary activity includes a source analysis task on the usefulness of a political cartoon on the Fireside Chats.
Different exam board syllabuses look at the Alphabet Agencies in varying degrees of depth. This PowerPoint will provide a good introduction to the work of each agency, please check my shop for more detailed in depth lessons on the work of each alphabet agency.

This great resource makes an excellent starter, plenary or even a mini plenary to a lesson on the causes of poverty at the start of the 20th Century. I usually use this resource whilst teaching the Liberal Reforms as part of GCSE Modern World History, but more recently I have also used it for teaching / revising this topic as part of GCSE Medicine Through Time.
The resource includes a series of causes of poverty which students have to cut out and match to the with the correct explanation (consequence) of how they increased poverty. Alternatively, students could create a key to help match them up to correctly. As a stretch and challenge task, students could them organise them into the order of importance before feeding back to a class discussion and sticking them into their book.

This great revision video was made to help my students revise the Liberal Reforms and the importance of the introduction of the Old Age Pensions.
I recorded the music with permission from Tony Capstick, whilst he was singing at the Main Street Working Men's Club in Mexborough in 1992. In the song, which is used as background to my slide show on old age prevision before the act, the workhouse and the work of the social reformers to raise the issue, Tony Capstick sings with the help of the audience, a folk song about Lloyd George and Old Age Pensions and how they rescued people from the workhouse.
By the end of the video, its not unusual to have the whole class singing along. You can hear the old cash register in the background.

This outstanding resource is designed to help students evaluate how successful the New Deal was at putting the USA back to work through the alphabet agencies by looking at two contrasting case studies the Civilian Works Administration and the Public Works Administration.
When you buy this resource you will receive a nineteen slide PowerPoint that includes information, sources and six activities: Activity 1 is a snowballing starter; Activity 2 is based around a class discussion of FDR's inauguration speech the aims of the New Deal; Activity 3 is a discussions around an animate diagram about how consumer fear was undermining the US economy and making unemployment worse; Activity 4 looks at 'pump priming' and why certain groups opposed it and is linked to a source analysis question; Activity 5 gets students to evaluate some of the jobs created by the CWA and decide if they were boondoggles and Activity 6 is Venn diagram card sort exercise to help students compare and contrast both agencies and decide which was the most effective. You also get a blank Venn diagram template to print of for your students as well as a card sort sheet with 24 statements to sort.

This great resource is designed to help students understand why the US economy boomed in the 1920's. It can used with pretty much any resource on this topic and is suitable for the full range of abilities. To help stretch students, I have also built in some challenge with a thinking skills review triangle activity at the end to help them prioritise which was the most important factor. This organiser could then be used as the basis for a plan along with the card sort for an extended piece of writing or essay on this topic.
The resource includes eight heading cards including impact of the First World War, credit, confidence, natural resources, technological change, Republican policies, marketing and mass production. It also includes twenty statement cards. Six of these statement cards are on the second page along with the thinking skills review activity. For a lower ability class, you could just print off the first page and give them fourteen cards to sort.

When you buy this resource you will receive a twenty four slide PowerPoint that includes information, sources and ten activities. Activity 1 is a snowballing starter; Activity 2 is based around a class discussion of FDR's inauguration speech the aims of the New Deal; Activity 3 is a discussions around an animate diagram about how consumer fear was undermining the US economy and making unemployment worse; Activity 4 looks at 'pump priming' and why certain groups opposed it and is linked to a source analysis question; Activity 5 gets students to evaluate some of the jobs created by the CWA and decide if they were boondoggles and Activity 6 aims to get students to explain how the PWA tried to help the unemployed. Activity 7 is a source analysis question which aims to get students to assess the short comings of the PWA. This could be adapted to an exam style question. I have provided a pupil mark scheme that could be easily adapted to suit your own exam board. Activity 8 asks students to evaluate whether the jobs created by the WPA were 'boondoggles', whilst activity 9 aims to get students to copy down the diagram about the achievements of the WPA and improve it after watching a media clip. Activity 10 is based around a class discussion on whether Harold Ickes or Harry Hopkins was right and includes quotes by historians to help fuel the debate.
