Lesson aimed at top set Y10 but can easily be adapted. Lesson looking at different accommodation types and using the preterite and imperfect tenses together. Potential for at least 2 lessons worth of content. C easily build in more whole class questioning, whiteboard recall and retrieval practice. Prior learning: preterite tense formation; imperfect tense formation; holiday vocabulary (countries, transport, activities). Pupils had already written an extended description of a past holiday (90 words) which they go back to this lesson and improve with a more detailed description of accomodation. Starter: Gap fill - preterite tense text about a past holiday with key verbs removed. Pupils have to fill in the missing verbs then find the two mistakes - 2 of the verbs should be in the imperfect. Activity 1. Think, pair, share: preterite vs imperfect tense Activity 2. Match up - accommodation Activity 3. Listen and repeat - accomodation Activity 4. Paired speaking: Talking about accommodation in the present tense - ¿Adónde te quedas normalmente cuando estás de vacaciones? ¿Por qué? Activity 5. Reading comprehension Activity 6. Extended vocab recall Activity 7. Translations: talking about accomodation in the imperfect tense Activity 8. DIRT time written task: ¿Adónde te quedaste durante las vacaciones y cómo era?

Approx. 2-3 lessons (depending on how much recall/retrieval you include) to compliment the VIVA AQA GCSE Textbook. Any images from the book have been removed from the presentation so you will need access to these resources to include - corresponding page numbers on the slides. This was designed for a top set Y10 class but I used both the VERDE and ROJO books as they are only just starting the GCSE course. Lesson 1-2: Places in a town (Viva ROJO) Plenty of opportunity to build in further retrieval activities or practice with adjectives if needed. I found I got to Activity 6 by the end of Lesson 1 so began with the adjective recall at the start of lesson 2. Starter - vocab recall + grammar activity (VIVIR) Activity 1: Whole class retrieval Activity 2: Paired retrieval (speaking practice) Activity 3: Making links - reading comp. Activity 4: Listening + grammar point (un/una/unos/unas/muchos/muchas) Activity 5: Sentence translations Sp-Eng + challenge Eng-Sp Activity 6: Adjective recall + think pair share Activity 7: Whiteboard work - stepped translations including adjectives Activity8: Writing task with template Bonus resource: Whole class feedback sheet based on common mistakes and misconceptions seen during the writing task. Lesson 3: Directions (Viva VERDE) Starter: Forming questions in Spanish - ¿dónde está? Activity 1: Paired vocabulary task Activity 2: Action! Activity 3: Listening: ¿Adónde van? Activity 4: Asking for and giving directions (speaking or writing task)
