Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check - an assessment tool.

(0)
Ahead of the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), this assessment tool helps teachers to decide which multiplication tables their students need to focus on. It is designed to reduce teacher workload. In keeping with the MTC, it does not test 0 and 1 multiplication tables; in line with a Year 4 level, it assumes that most 2, 5, 10 and 11 multiplication tables are secure. This tool is made up of four documents: • The Multiplication check student, which can be used independently to simply assess whether multiplication table knowledge is secure. It is divided into four quadrants, focusing on different tables. This could be teacher-marked. • The Multiplication check student (self-mark) , which is the same as above but it highlights the four quadrants and has boxes to record the score for each quadrant. Children tally up their correct answers in each quadrant box provided. The lowest tallies would then help the teacher to decide which multiplication tables to focus on. • The Multiplication check - key for teacher helps the teacher decide which multiplication tables to teach based on how the children scored in each quadrant. • The Multiplication check student answer sheet so that children can self or peer mark

12 Times Table Power-point and Worksheet

(0)
Use this power-point and worksheet to practice the 12 Times Table as a class. They use the Maths Mastery approach to developing fluency in Multiplication. During the power-point, I would ask children to do work on white-boards and then hold them up for teacher assessment after each slide. The accompanying worksheet can be used to assess fluency. I would use the power-point for four days and then assess using the worksheet on day five. An answer sheet is provided so that students can self or peer mark.

Times tables flashcards 6,7,8,9,12

These flashcards focus on the times-tables that have been proven to be difficult to memorise. They do not cover all the facts within the 6,7,8,9 and 12 times-tables. They may be printed out and used as flashcards with the questions on one side and the answers on the other. Or they may be printed with the questions and answers on separate cards, and then used for games. I would use these flashcards in pairs. Children could play Snap, matching questions to correct answers; or they could play the Memory Game, turning over two cards at a time and keeping the cards that match the questions to correct answers.

Times tables worksheet – 6,7,8,9,12

This worksheet is designed to help year 4 pupils master the most difficult times-tables, in preparation for the DFE’s Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). Research has shown that most children struggle to learn the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 times tables. The MTC focuses on these times tables. This worksheet covers all of these tables once and can be used as daily practice or as an assessment tool to identify which tables need to be practised further. I have identified which children in my year 4 class are not yet fluent in their times-tables and I ask them to compete this worksheet every morning, in their morning work time. They then use the answer sheet to self-mark in order to support their memorisation.
