These 7 worksheets are aimed at the new GCSE requirement for students to use and understand Venn diagrams. They approach the topic from different angles using word problems and set notation. The sheets are mainly at foundation level and only include two sets. Students can shade which areas on the diagram represent particular sets or subsets and then progress to sorting data based on two conditions e.g. Do you drink tea, do you drink coffee ? The later sheets also involve probability questions including conditional probabilties e.g. What is the probability that a swimmer also cycles regularly ? A set of 13 worksheets providing a variety of questions about finding and using prime factors. The questions try to encourage students to understand how prime factors can be used to explore the properties of numbers. Venn diagrams are used to calculate the lowest common multiple and highest common factor and the sheets help students see why the Venn diagram works. They are suitable for revision, reinforcement and extension work on prime factorisation. There is a lot of emphasis on being able to explain what key maths vocabulary means e.g. words like factor, multiple, prime. Most of the sheets have spaces for the answers to be written on. There is one sheet which contains similar questions with no working out space. Answers are provided. There are some tough word problems that require resilience and possibly some algebra to solve. Three of the sheets focus more on conditional probabilities - the ‘given that’ type of questions that children often struggle with. The questions are worded in different ways to help learners see how sometimes the probability is being calculated out of members from a subset of the universal set. To provide revision on some basic shape properties there are two sheets about sorting triangles and quadrilaterals according to their properties. This collection of five worksheets ( complete with answers and working out ) covers the basics of multiplying out triple brackets then moves on to using the results in different situations. Students are eased into the topic with a little revision of the multiplying out that they will already have mastered then there is plenty of practise with progressively harder examples of multiplying out triple brackets including those with repeated factors. The extension sheets include proofs and finding the difference between two expressions ( a challenge in itself to remember to do x³ +3 x² + 3x + 1 )- ( x³ - 3x² + x - 1 ) carefully ! ). Geometric problems involving cube diagrams to illustrate the expansion of ( a + b )³ will provide useful extension work for the brightest GCSE students. Evaluate 1.1³ to show how powers of numbers can be found using expansions. The sheets could be used independently by your brightest y9s and above as they include instructions. These 9 worksheets provide an introduction to measuring and drawing three figure bearings beginning by looking at the 8 points of the compass. The practical uses of bearings in the real world are emphasised by requiring students to work through word problems with varying levels of support. There is a lot of opportunity for practising measuring and drawing angles up to 360°. Revise angle vocabulary and apply basic angle facts. As an additional feature sone of the examples also require diagrams to be measured so the map scale can be used to find the actual real life distance. These 5 worksheets help to explain the effects of enlargement on the area and volume of a shape by looking at the length, area and volume ratios. This is an important topic that is often found difficult by many students. There are three basic worksheets introducing the idea then two pages of harder word problems for extension work. The first worksheet lets students calculate the surface area and volume of simple 1cm and 2cm cubes so they can create the ratios themselves and see how the area and volume ratios derive from the length ratio. Sheets 2 and 3 require students to use the relationships between the ratios to calculate missing areas and volumes. The two word problem sheets are similar to GCSE 9-1 exam questions. This colourful powerpoint uses animations and photographs to introduce or revise the vocabulary needed for working with circles e.g. radius, diameter, circumference, centre, circular, semicircle. There is also an accompanying worksheet. Slides require students to draw circles with given dimensions and perform calculations based on circles fitting inside other shapes and vice versa. The images and animations can also be used to revise area calculations, metric unit conversions, symmetry ( using photographs of car badges for instance ) and locus work. The hardest problem requires a knowledge of Pythagoras to solve it. The slides have notes and suggestions accompanying them. This collection of 10 worksheets will help students to visualise fractions better by shading diagrams to represent particular fractions. There is progression from the simple pages where the boxes can be shaded by just counting 3 out of 4 boxes for example to those where the student has to see how to split a 4x5 grid into tenths in order to shade 7/10. There are worksheets that require fractions to be identified then cancelled or for a diagram to be interpreted in two different ways e.g. 10/15 = 2/3. One page considers the shaded AND unshaded parts of a grid that must always make up the whole.
