A fun activity to drill ‘Free time’ vocabulary whilst developing translation skills from Spanish into English. Based on the game ‘One pen One die’ (‘Games for Teaching Primary French’ by Danièle Bourdais and Sue Finnie), where pupils compete to be the first one to finish all the translations.
Here is how to play: in pairs, students take turns to roll the die to decide who goes first. Whoever gets a six starts translating whilst the other person rolls the die to try and steal the pen by getting another six. When they get it, they shout ‘¡Para!’ (Stop!) and ‘steal’ the pen off their partner to start translating. The person who just lost the pen starts rolling it to get number six to steal it again. The winner is the pupil who finishes the translations first. Prompt your students to think of their translation whilst rolling the die so they are always on task! It can also be played online with a virtual die.
The PowerPoint includes two differentiated worksheets on Free Time and an adaptable template too to suit the topic being studied as well as to the students’ needs and level.

A low preparation activity to drill grammar and vocabulary. Using mini whiteboards, students need to progressively complete the tasks on each box (4 in total). The teacher checks them student by student and when correct, they move into the next one. The student that first reaches and completes the 4th task, ‘scores’ the goal and wins that game. It can also be printed and completed as an independent task.
You just need to adapt the content of the boxes to suit your classes’ needs: you could have sentences to translate, single words to go over vocabulary, questions, verbs to conjugate, etc . Suitable for all levels and available in Spanish, English and French. It can also be used in other subjects.

Spanish taboo game to drill vocabulary - theme of school/education.
The resource consits of 80 cards* and a board. Each card has a word for the team to guess and a crossed word that cannot be said by the person explaining the concept. Someone from the opposite team is in charge of checking that:
the ‘forbidden’ word is not said
words from the same family aren’t used
gestures are not made
If any of the above happens, this person will shout ‘¡Para!’ (Stop!), discard the card and pick another one for the other team to carry on. Pupils can also pass if they don’t know the word or how to describe it. The teams advance as many squares as words they guess within the time given in each round.
On the board, pupils can land into three different types of squares:
pink and blue squares: nothing happens if they land on these ones. They just wait for the next turn.
‘doble de tiempo’: their team gets double time on the next turn.
-‘intercambiad posiciones’: both teams swap positions, no matter where they are at that point.
The time given to teams to try and guess as many words as possible is totally up to the teacher depending on the group’s ability and confidence with the topic.
*There are also 20 aditional empty cards that can be filled in with any specific vocabulary.
-casillas rosas y azules: no sucede nada. Sólo tienen que esperar al siguiente turno.
-“doble de tiempo”: el equipo que cae aquí tiene el doble de tiempo en el siguiente turno.
-“intercambiad posiciones”: los dos equipos cambian sus fichas, independientemente de dónde se encuentren en ese momento.
El tiempo dado para que adivinen las palabras lo decide el profesor basándose en las necesidades y destrezas del grupo.
*Hay 20 tarjetas vacías adicionales que pueden rellenarse con el vocabulario que se desee.
