Objective: Know basic number properties such as factor, square, LCM, HCF, etc. Twenty questions on a PowerPoint which any class can do as a nice ender plenary which students seem to always enjoy. The PowerPoint has the 20 questions and then the 20 questions with the answers. You could always not display to the class the PowerPoint until going through the answers so it becomes a mental arithmetic test. Algebra Simplification Expressions MASTERY Starter WITH ANSWERS Mr Wrong Misconceptions

Objective: Simplify algebraic expressions by collecting like terms and then simplifying. I've given the answers but they are not fully correct or they are incorrect. The students need to identify the errors and make them right. As an extension ask them to pick a question and write up a really good explanation of how not to make that mistake again. Answer Sheet included :) 11 questions which identify particular types of questions like "a- a = 0" and not "0a", etc. The questions are copied from an excellent worksheet published by mathsmalakiss. I've used his/her worksheet which you can download yourself. Percentage of a Quantity Lesson Starter WITH ANSWERS :) Bubble Spider Quick Routes Method

(0)
Objective: Be able to find the percentage of a quantity (such as money amount) using a non calculator method. Real simple starter. Display the PowerPoint on the whiteboard. Print out the Starter worksheets onto A6 sized sheets or even 2 x 2 Label Sheets and the students come in, see the displayed slide and know to get straight onto their "bell task". Great way to settle them down. Use as a recap for last lesson or like I did to push them onto a harder example that just whole numbers. Use the enclosed Answers to check their working and so understanding. I call this method "Percentage by Quick Routes".. Usually taught via "bubble" or "spider" charts. See my other resources for more examples. There are eight really good questions written by my students from their homework. I've chosen the best eight and graded them using "SkiRoute" Difficulty (See my other resources). The questions are laid out for 2x4 labels. Give a sheet of 8 questions to each table and they can choose which of the eight they wish to answer (self differentiation). Alternatively use the PowerPoint and display them - several versions on your preferred preference for displaying the answers. The Original Homework task sheet is also included. Enjoy. Algebra Algebraic Linear Graphs Glossary Fact Sheet First Lesson Keywords Word search

All the keywords with explanations presented as a very useful overview of topic fact sheet. As an intro to linear algebraic graphs I have put together all the keywords you need into a word search. After giving your students this ask them to write definitions of all the terms in the word search. Alternatively give them the fact sheet. They can paste into their books and after highlighting can use it as a reference page whilst studying the topic. 101 ideas strategies fun positive behaviour lesson planning for new and improving teachers

Over a hundred ideas for lessons. Wrote this a couple of years ago and then updated this week after two years of working in a Requires Improvement school where I've had a lot of feedback and so had lots of improvements. Most of the ideas are innovations of other peoples ideas but I've always tried to put an element of fun into the lessons. I am sure that you will find at least ten of these which you will like which you haven't seen before or thought of before and you will want to try out. Not all ideas will work for you and either way they need to fit in with your school ethos and the current trends in your school. However there is loads in here to think about. Lots of these ideas have further detail as a separate TES resources listed in my TES shop. If you download this I would very much welcome it if you could write a review. Successful Silence 5 minute Quiet Time Lesson Strategy Positive Behaviour Idea Lesson Study

(0)
Simple idea....Make sure the student have everything they need to do the work. Make sure you have prepped them and given them opportunities to discuss it and ask questions. Check everyone understands what to do and how to do it. Then give them the task and insist on five minutes of "Successful silence". During this time they are absolutely not allowed to talk - even the students with TA's. That way they are given the chance to work quietly. This is something the students have said they want - quiet time to work in. This was done as a "Action Research Lesson Study" with the North East Teacher Development Trust Network. Compass Bearings Angles Activities

Compass Bearings Angles Activities

The worksheets are as described for the compass rose. Simply some questions on completing bearing directions on a full compass rose diagram. The middle two are for measuring bearings using a protractor. answers included. The Quickdraw Cards and Activity is the idea that someone in the classroom gives a bearing and the opponent gives the 180 degree reverse bearing back... One student stands up and says a bearing of another student relative to them (approximate). The other student then replies with the return bearing and if it is correct then points are awarded. You can play it by telling two students to stand and then they both have to try and say the bearing of the other student first. The cards (simply a list of bearings between 0 and 360 degrees) and PowerPoint (some practice questions to show them the idea) help with this. If you like this then please check out my many other Maths activities listed on my TES Resources shop and pages including many Premium resources which may be able to save you lots of time and give you some useful ideas. Choosing the right appropriate measure and units for measurement

The picture splat idea is where you print out the sheets onto A3 (& laminate) and put one on each table of four (or two) students. You then ask questions and the students slap down on the correct answer from the choice in front of them. E.g. "Which item on the Appropriate units splat card would be measured in kilometres?" Answer - the bridge. The PowerPoint gives you a lot of the questions and a framework for how to use the splat cards. Measures Imperial Metric Conversion Appropriate Measures Domino Follow Me Treasure Hunt Card

(0)
Measures Imperial Metric Conversion Appropriate Measures Domino Card Activities and some matching worksheets. The main activity here is the "Follow Me" Domino cards where the question on each card is followed by the answer on the next card. The questions are for students to choose the most appropriate measure for a particular everyday item. Couple of differentiated versions to use. The task is quite hard if given to out with all the cards on the same colour so you may wish to print each page of the cards on a different colour - this makes it easier to match cards up. The picture version makes it easier for some students. You can play it as give a set of cards to a table of four for them to arrange or give out one set of cards between the whole class and then play it as a "Follow Me Card" game. Alternatively stick them around the room and then the students play as a treasure hunt which becomes a bit more energetic. Files 11,12 & 13 are just some different but related measures conversion domino card exercises. Tony cycled 3 kilometres to town. He walked 200 metres along the street to a burger bar. He ordered a 250 gram burger and a 330 millilitres can of cola. The burger was excellent, it was 2.5 centimetres thick. You read the students a story like above and then they write their own. It's very creative and makes great displays. Insist that use the specified measures. There's loads of different versions of theis worksheet from all the different times I've used it. Pcik the one which suits your learners best.
