What is Music?

What is Music? A worksheet and PowerPoint for use in a one off lesson on the topic of What is Music? I created this lesson for use with a year 6 to year 7 transition class but the lesson would work well for any KS2 or KS3 group. This lesson relies on a teachers good ability to lead a philosophical discussion about What is Music? The lesson features many questions and activities to inspire the class to think about what music is to them and elements that sounds have to have in order to be called music. The lesson also features 4 examples of music chosen specifically to challenge the class’ traditional view of what music is.

This is a worksheet that is useful to teach students about the process of recording a song ready to be released. There is two pages of information and one page with 6 tasks on it. The tasks involve the pupils making their own leaflet (with the use of PCs or iPads) and conducting their own research in addition to reading the text included in order to answer comprehension style questions.

Exploring Abbey Road

This is a worksheet that helps to guide pupils through the Google resource Inside Abbey Road (https://insideabbeyroad.withgoogle.com/). The website is a virtual tour around the iconic Abbey Road studios in London, UK. The tour is interactive and the students can take this at their own pace. There are lots of items for the students to click on and explore to learn more. This activity is a great introduction to recording studios, the equipment they contain and what they are used for. The worksheet I have created helps to guide pupils through the tour making sure they do not miss out any of the important bits! The worksheet features questions that require the pupil to use the tour to conduct their own research to find the answers to. The lesson requires PCs or iPads in order to view the tour whilst completing the worksheet. This is suitable to as a cover lesson.
