Protein synthesis: Transcription and Translation

Protein synthesis: Transcription and Translation

(1)
An infographic made for Year 11 Separate Biology students (Edexcel HT Spec). My students were struggling to remember the differences and processes involved in protein synthesis, so I made this for them. It quite a simplified version of events but includes all the key terms in a engaging and memorable format. I gave the students a copy of this and asked them to create 4 and 6 mark questions based on the content, they then peer assessed the responses. Hope you enjoy!
Year 8 chemical and physical reactions

Year 8 chemical and physical reactions

(0)
Year 8 double lesson with worksheets and answers. The first reaction is between sulphur and iron to make iron sulphide. Students identify the properties of both reactants and the product. The second experiment is asking the class to calculate the mass of a raw egg and predict the mass after it has been hard boiled. The second part of the lesson requires the teacher to explain more details about the differences between physical and chemical reactions. Simple formulas and equations are then used to consolidate learning then finishing the lessons with an example of a chemical reaction (fire triangle). Answers provided for students to peer assess and mark students work.

Healthy & Unhealthy AQA Biology 4.2

(1)
A simple worksheet activity for students to complete in groups or pairs. The task is for students to list healthy and unhealthy behaviours and lifestyle choices as task 1. Task 2 asks them to define and give examples of communicable and non communicable diseases. Task 3 asks students to list diseases and illnesses that are caused by protists, fungi, bacteria and viruses. Some examples and answers given for task 1 and 2. I used this at the end of my teaching of 'organisation' 4.2 in AQA biology new spec 2016+
Shipwrecked: Pressure in Liquids + P=F/A rearranging + ANSWERS

Shipwrecked: Pressure in Liquids + P=F/A rearranging + ANSWERS

(3)
An engaging resource for students to practice their understanding of the two pressure formulas: P=height x density x gravity and P= force/area. Students have to calculate the pressure that each animal/person is subjected to at different depths in sea water. They are given the lethal force required for each organism, using the P=f/a formula they have to work out if they survive or not. Extension activities could include - finding out the maximum depth they have to be at before they would die etc... You could ask the students to find a liquid that has a much lower density in which the organisms could survive greater depths. My students loved it and I hope your students do too. Enjoy!

iGCSE Physics - Resistors and Calculations

(2)
This powerpoint focuses on fixed resistors and calculating resistance using the band colours as well as the the resistance formulas used in circuits. This was made for a top set year 11 iGCSE class and features on the older Cambridge iGCSE syllabus. It is still relevant for all students studying resistance (fixed and variable) in electrical circuits and systems.

iGCSE Physics - AND, OR, NOT Logic Gates

(3)
I found very few resources for this odd topic in iGCSE physics so i created this powerpoint for my classes. It explains the differences between the three logic gates and also when two or more are combined. There is an intro to boolean language and binary but not too much. It was used for a top set Year 11 iGCSE class but can possibly be used for lower age groups.

Static Electricity iGCSE Physics

(5)
This is a PPT lesson with printable slides for students to use as worksheets (in groups is best). This was designed for the iGCSE Cambridge syllabus but it is relevant to all exam boards that contain static electricity topics. Build up of charges Electrons and Protons Discharge Sparks etc... Real life applications and suggestion for practicals. Balloons with polyester jumpers = attracts fine hair Balloon rubbed with jumper or silk cloth will attract small pieces of tissues paper The balloon will also 'magically' attract/repel an aluminium drinks can on it's side Use the charged balloon to bend a thin light stream of water from a tap. There is a video of lightning occurring outside my house which you can take out if you wish.

iGCSE Physics: Cathode Rays - Video Tutorial & Exam Questions

(0)
A 12 minute tutorial video about how a CRT and CRO works for the CIE Cambridge iGCSE physics syllabus. Features exam question at the end. Lots of visual stimuli and basic explanations for a varied audience. The video includes references to abstract humour (such as the Pitbull effect - like electrons he took his life from negative to positive). This video can be shown to your students and then they can summarise the content. You can pause the video and print the exam questions to hand out to students. As the teacher you can pause the video, rewind or fast forward areas that students may not understand fully. I hope you enjoy it!
