KS1 RE - Special Words and Stories - The Bible!
In this engaging lesson, students develop their understanding of the Bible, and why it is special to Christians. They also consider the words and stories that are meaningful to themselves. It was originally taught as a part of an RE unit on ‘Special Words and Stories.’
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Thinking about which stories are meaningful to them, and why they hold special meaning;
-Introducing children to the Bible, and developing their understanding about who it was written by, how it is structured, and the different types of writing that we can be found within it;
-Understanding why the Bible is special to Christians, including reflecting on a child-friendly version of The Good Samaritan, to demonstrate how Bible stories teach Christians important messages;
-Completing a plenary activity to assess their understanding;
-Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objective.

Romeo and Juliet: The Montagues and The Capulets (Analysis of Act 1 Scene 1)
This lesson enables students to gain a detailed understanding of the opening scene in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Students learn to make sustained and developed inferences and interpretations in relation to both characters and plot. Students also produce a family tree to demonstrate the relationships between the characters, using colourful and interesting images and resources.
The lesson utilises a range of tasks, that require students to be attentive and interactive learners. It follows this learning journey:
- Defining the key term 'feud' and apply this understanding to a range of contexts;
- Reading and interpreting the prologue and Act 1 Scene 1, and establishing how Shakespeare sets the scene in Verona;
- Reflecting upon what effect this may have had on audiences at the time;
- Making detailed inferences/ interpretations into clues about characterisation and social structure;
- Analysing Shakespeare's intentions in including such an energetic scene at the outset of the play;
- Peer/self evaluating the learning in the lesson.

Africa: Physical and Human Geography (People and Places)
This interesting and highly-stimulating lesson enables students to describe and understand the key aspects of physical geography (e.g. climates, vegetation belts, flora, fauna, mountains, and rivers) and human geography (e.g. types of settlement, populations, use of resources, and trade) in the vast and varied continent of Africa. Whilst gaining a wide range of knowledge about the content, students also become familiar with a wide range of vocabulary pertinent to the geography curriculum.

Churches - The Features of Churches!
In this lesson, students learn about the key features of Anglican churches.
Some of the features covered include: the font, the altar, the pulpit, the lecturn, the nave, the crucifix and stained glass windows. Students learn about the key purpose of the features, and where they can be found in the church.
Students also begin to comprehend what the features symbolise.

Writing Reviews!
This interesting and engaging lesson enables students to know what reviews are and why people read them, understand the features that make effective reviews, and write their own interesting and appropriate reviews. In particular, students learn to use a range of appropriate features in writing their own reviews, including facts and opinions, jargon, connectives, and statistics. There are easily enough resources here for 2-3 lessons on this topic.
Over the course of their learning journey, students:

Jane Eyre - Bertha Mason: The Gothic Monster!
This engaging and informative lesson enables students to make precise and perceptive interpretations of the character of Bertha Mason in Jane Eyre. Through close analysis of specific extracts from the text, students develop an understanding of how Bertha fits the conventions of a quintessential ‘gothic monster’, and also explore her position as a prime example of the ‘Other’ in Victorian society.
The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which students learn through:
Defining the key term ‘gothic novel’ and understanding the key conventions of gothic literature;
Reading selected extracts from the text and answering comprehension questions considering Bertha Mason as fulfilling the role of the gothic monster;
Considering ideas of the Victorian ‘Other’ and establishing how Bertha Mason recycles these ideas;
Analysing how ideas of Bertha link to predominant 19th Century ideas about mental health and ethnicity;

Fantastic Fronted Adverbials!
This engaging and detailed resource pack has been designed to make the learning of fronted adverbials (particularly prominent in the new curriculum) easily accessible, engaging and interesting for all children. Throughout the lesson, students learn to improve their skill at using appropriate, concise, and precise fronted adverbials within their own writing compositions. In addition to the comprehensive lesson, resources, and plan, it also includes a fronted adverbials writing mat to assist students in building their extended writing skills.
The lesson follows a clear, logical, bite-size learning journey, which guides students towards differentiated learning objectives. Over the course of this journey, they become able to:

Aspiration Assembly! (Primary)
This fun and original assembly aims to inspire children to be aspirational, through:
-Understanding what aspiration is and recognising why it is important;
-Finding out about successful and inspirational people who have been aspirational, gone on inspiring journeys and reached their goals (examples include Ed Sheeran, Beth Mead and Malala Yousafzai);
-Demonstrating the power of aspiration through a powerful video - followed by discussion questions;
-Looking at their own lives and considering how they can apply aspiration strategies (e.g. setting SMART targets, etc.)
-Ending with reflection and a well-linked song.
This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. It is comprehensive (20 slides in total - there is enough material for a 30-40 minute assembly or two 20-minute assemblies). The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives.
No further resources are required - everything that you need to present the assembly is included.
The assembly presentation is fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker just in case. Hope that you find this useful!
