Deadly Dangerous Kings and Queens - Whole Class Reading Session!
This whole class reading session aims to aid children in developing their reading comprehension skills. through reading the opening two chapters of Karl Shaw’s ‘Deadly Dangerous Kings and Queens.’
The resource pack includes the link to the text (it is also included in the resource pack as a PDF) and all of the activities for the session, which the class are guided through via a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation. The reading is followed by a series of activities aiming to develop children’s retrieval, explanation, inference, prediction and summarising skills. It also contains a vocabulary check immediately after the text is read to clarify any unfamiliar/ difficult language.
The tasks are comprised of quick-check questions, solo thinking, pair/ group discussions and deeper thinking activities.
The session is best suited for children in years 3-4, although with minor adaptations it could feasibly be used with slightly older or younger year groups. This resource is suitable for home/ remote learning. These resources are also suitable for home/ remote learning.
Where the Wild Things Are - Whole Class Reading Session!
This whole class reading session aims to develop children’s fluency and comprehension skills through reading Maurice Sendak’s ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’
The reading is followed by a series of activities aiming to develop children’s retrieval, explanation, inference, prediction and summarising skills. It also contains a vocabulary check immediately after the extract is read to clarify any unfamiliar/ difficult language.
The tasks are comprised of quick-check questions, solo thinking, pair/ group discussions and deeper thinking activities. The text is hyperlinked (first slide) for ease of access, and a slide show version is also provided as a PDF.
The session is best suited for children in years 1-2, although with minor adaptations it could feasibly be used with slightly younger and older year groups.
Private Peaceful - Whole Class Reading Session!
This whole class reading session aims to develop children’s comprehension skills through a reading of the opening chapter of Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Private Peaceful.’

War Horse - Joey's Journey!
This engaging and informative lesson enables students to understand the structural features used by Michael Morpurgo to plot the narrative and engage the reader in War Horse. In particular, students analyse the effectiveness of his first person perspective and narrative structure, before creating their own well-structured story plans.
The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which children learn through:
Understanding the benefits of Morpurgo’s first person narration from Joey’s viewpoint;
Defining and exemplifying the different stages of narrative structure;
Applying this understanding to ‘War Horse’, considering why each stage of narrative structure is vital to the novel.
Analysing the effectiveness of Morpurgo’s structural devices, considering the effect on the reader;
Creating plans for the structure of their own WW1 narratives, utilising the structural components discussed over the lesson ;
Peer assessing each other’s learning attempts;

War Horse Pointless Game!
Based on the popular game show ‘Pointless’, this resource is perfect for use as a whole lesson resource, enrichment option, or revision tool. Editable, so that you can change to any other topic or change questions. (I’ve also added a blank template so that you can make your own games from scratch). Containing almost 30 slides of sound clips and suitably challenging questions, this resource is effective at both promoting engagement and enhancing learning. There are several full rounds of questions to build or revisit knowledge of characters, plot, and themes in ‘War Horse.’

This engaging and thought-provoking double-lesson resource aids students in developing a secure understanding of the first two chapters of Roald Dahl’s ‘Boy: Tales of Childhood.’

Pride and Prejudice - Understanding the Plot!
In this engaging and informative lesson, students are enabled to demonstrate a secure understanding of the narrative structure within Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ In particular, students gain a deeper understanding of the web of relationships and quarrels involving the Bennets, Bingleys, and Darcys (amongst others) through sequencing, interpreting, and summarising key plot events.
The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which students learn through:
- Playing a fun group quiz to secure their understanding of key plot elements;
- Sequencing the events of the text and explaining what happens in each chapter;
- Summarising the events of the text through a storyboard;
- Recreating the ending of the text, relying upon their in-depth understanding of plot and characters;
- Peer assessing each other’s learning attempts.
Included is:

- Plot event cards for the card sorting activity;

There are also opportunities for group learning, peer assessment, and whole class discussion. These resources were originally taught to GCSE students, but with subtle adaptations they have also been used with both younger and older (up to A Level) students.

DT Mechanisms - Wheels and Axles - Evaluating!
This engaging and purposeful series of lessons enables children to gradually develop towards constructing vehicles using wheels and axles. The resources were originally created to guide children towards building safari buggies, but the resources can easily be adapted to fit your own particular project.
This is the fifth and final lesson in the series, in which children focus on evaluating their products. They:
-Recall how wheel and axle mechanisms work;
-Recall key terminology relating to wheel and axle mechanisms;
-Understand which skills and knowledge they will need in order to successfully evaluate products;
-Use a clear evaluation template and success criteria to evaluate their own products.
The resource is made up of a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation and the evaluation template.
These lessons were originally created for children in years 2 and 3, but may be adapted for slightly older and younger year groups.
Rembrandt Knowledge Organiser!
This clear, detailed and visually-appealing resource offers a complete reference point for students learning about the Dutch Golden Age artist Rembrandt, as a part of their art and design study.
It contains comprehensive sections on:

This resource can be adapted for all ages, but was originally designed for KS3/upper KS2 children.

Patience Collective Worship!
This fun and original collective worship aids children in understanding the value of being patient, through:
Understanding what patience is, and recognising why it is important;
Understanding the relevance and importance of patience in Christianity;
Looking at examples of patient and impatient behaviour (including through personal examples and acting out an adapted version of 'The Tortoise and the Hare), and determining the impact that it has on the individuals and others around them;
Learning strategies to demonstrate patience in their own lives.
The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation, hyperlinks to relevant and interesting video clips, and both a PDF and Word copy of the script for the fable. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to understand how patience is considered in the Bible, and also to guide them in how they can be patient in their own lives.
The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guiding notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!
St Peter - Collective Worship - The Denial of Peter!
This engaging and original assembly/ collective worship session aims to provide children with an understanding of the Saint Peter, particularly focusing on his him denying being an acquaintance of Jesus. It was originally delivered as the second in a series of three collective worship sessions on Saint Peter.
The aims of the session are to consider:
-Peter’s allegiance with Jesus;
-Some of the choices made by Peter towards the end of Jesus’ life;
-Lessons that we can learn to apply to our own lives.
The colourful and comprehensive presentation guides the worship leader and the children through the following journey:
-Recalling prior knowledge about Saint Peter and establishing the basic information about who he was/ what he is known for;
-Understanding how Peter was present at many of Jesus’ miracles;
-Acting out an age-appropriate script which presents the denial of Peter in an accessible and clear way;
-Considering why Peter chose to deny his relationship with Jesus;
-Reflecting on our own spirituality - thinking about times when we have let people down - how did we feel and what could we have done better?
-Participating in related song and prayer.
This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. If everything is kept in, it takes around 30 minutes to deliver, but you may choose to edit or amend some elements of the session.

Adam and Eve - Assembly/ Collective Worship!
This engaging and original assembly/ collective worship session aims to provide children with an understanding of the parable of the story of Adam and Eve and ‘The Fall’, with a key focus on its moral meanings and how they can be applied in modern life.
The colourful and comprehensive presentation guides children through:
-Remembering what the Bible teaches about creation in Genesis 1;
-Watching a video about the creation of humans and understanding that Christians believe that Man was made in God’s image;
-Reading the story of ‘The Fall’ (using the script provided - this works best when children read/ play the different roles);
-Demonstrating an understanding of the story by answering questions about the plot events;
-Reflecting on the deeper meanings of the story - how people are imperfect and have free will, but have a responsibility to look after the world around them;
-Considering how these teachings apply in the modern world;
-Considering how they can apply the key message to their own lives;
-Participating in related song and prayer.

Wisdom Collective Worship! (Focus on Collaboration)
This fun and original collective worship aids children in understanding the value of wisdom. Specifically, it focuses on having the wisdom to know when to collaborate with others. It was delivered as a part of a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a bundle), but works equally well as a standalone worship session. This is achieved through:
-Recalling the definition of wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise;
-Thinking about what the word ‘collaboration’ means and discussing what we know about hazards;
-Watching an age-appropriate video of different examples of collaboration from popular culture (hyperlinked);
-Reading about Jesus and his effective collaboration with the apostles;
-Relating these teachings to the modern world - discussing how others have shown collaboration to achieve great things, and thinking about how we can show collaboration in our own lives;
-Singing a hymn relating to working with others, before reflecting through prayer.
The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation and a hyperlink to the necessary video and hymn. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to consider how collaborating and using the wisdom of others can help us in our lives.

This fun and original collective worship session aims to assist children in understanding the value of faithfulness, through:
-Understanding what faithfulness is, and recognising why it is important;
-Understanding what the Bible teaches us about faithfulness, and learning about the story of Abraham and his faithfulness to God;
-Looking at an example of faithfulness in modern times;
-Thinking about times when they might need to be faithful to their friends, families and themselves;
-Learning strategies to demonstrate faithfulness in their own lives.
This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in (for example how they might act during and after conflicts) in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives.

Teamwork - Collective Worship!
This purposeful and original collective worship session aims to assist children in understanding the value of effective teamwork, through:
-Understanding what teamwork is and recognising why it is important (with the help of a funny, purposeful video, which is hyperlinked into the presentation);
-Learning what the Bible teaches about teamwork, and how we can apply these ideas to our own lives;
-Looking at everyday activities and considering which require effective teamwork skills;
-Demonstrating the power of teamwork through an engaging and powerful ‘hula hoop challenge’ game;
-Understanding how and why teamwork can be important in school, and thinking about how they would use teamwork in different scenarios;
-Finding out about how teamwork has contributed to some of humankind’s greatest achievements;
-Ending with a prayer and a song about using our individual talents as a part of a team.
This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. It is comprehensive (27 slides in total) and the slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives.
No further resources are required except a single hoop for the challenge activity - everything else that you need to present the worship is included.
The assembly presentation is fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker just in case. Hope that you find this useful!
The Twits - Chapters 13 to 16 - 'Mr Twit Gets a Horrid Shock' to 'Four Sticky Little Boys!'
This engaging and thought-provoking lesson resource aids students in developing a secure understanding of the chapters 13 to 16 of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits.’ The chapters covered in these lessons are ‘Mr Twit Gets a Horrid Shock’, ‘The House, The Tree and The Monkey Cage’, 'Hugtight Sticky Glue’ and ‘Four Sticky Little Boys.’
The lessons are guided by a comprehensive and colourful PowerPoint presentation, and enables students to understand the text through:
-Retrieving information;
-Inferring and deducing hidden meanings;
-Anaysing the writer’s use of language.
The sessions include a range of retrieval, vocabulary, inference, explanation and deeper thinking activities. A clear, colourful and comprehensive PowerPoint presentation guides students through the learning. The session ends with a thought-provoking creative activity.
There’s a lot in the session (18 slides in total) so I would recommend breaking into two lessons. The lessons are most suitable for children in lower key stage 2, (they were originally made for children in year 3) but they could also be adapted for slightly older and younger year groups.
