Children are given a variety of pictorial examples to work with and questions to provoke deeper thinking. National Curriculum Links Year 1 Number – Number and Place Value Identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least. Maths Focus Children start to understand the value of each digit in a two digit number and use this to compare numbers more efficiently. Maths Mastery Children can work with sentences that include more than and less than. Children can recognise that the inequality sign can be written either side of the number.
