A single sheet with the three trigonometric graphs drawn.

(1)
Sine, cosine and tangent graph drawn on one sheet. Helpful for students to understand the shape of trig graphs, their key intersections and turning points and by drawing horizontal lines to see why there can be multiple solutions to e.g sin x = 1/2.

SSDD Questions

These questions are inspired by Craig Barton’s SSDD questions who got the idea from an article on the benefits of interleaved mathematics by D. Rohrer et al. SSDD stands for ‘same surface different deep’ and the idea is that as teachers we become overconfident in students ability to use a technique to solve a problem as in most lessons students already know what technique to apply as they have already been told that’s what they will be doing in the lesson. Usually students apply one technique to solve a variety of problems in any one lesson. SSDD questions turn this on its head by having what looks like one problem but students are then asked questions that will require a variety of strategies to solve them. The aim is that students become more adept at identifying the strategy required to solve the problem without being told this first. The slides here can be used as they are but could also be adapted and extended for your own use. They are suitable as starters but a collection of questions could be used as the main part of a lesson.
