About
The Linnean Society of London is the world’s oldest active biological society. Founded in 1788, the Society is named after the naturalist Carl Linnaeus, whose specimen and library collections have been in its keeping since 1829. Our Fellowship is international and includes world leaders in each branch of biology. The Society promotes study of all aspects of biological science, with emphasis on evolution, taxonomy, biodiversity and sustainability. It communicates scientific advances in these fields through its three world-class journals, special publications and meetings. At the same time, the Society connects with biologists through its educational programmes.
