Use this PPT to introduce and explain time expressions and their corresponding tenses in French. On each slide, a phrase is given in French and pupils have to identify which tense it’s in. Then, they look at the time phrase and the tense in the sentence. Ideal for looking at translation in exams.

Template for Blockbusters pairwork. Students could either write in clues for their partner in each hexagon, or you could add your own. The aim is to get from one side of the board to the other by answering questions/clues. The other person must also try and block their opponent.

In pairs, one pupil notes down (in secret) which of each two options they will choose. The second pupil begins reading and chooses an option. If they’ve chosen correctly, they continue. If they are wrong, they must start from the beginning, remembering which of the options were correct. Prepare for a lot of laughter!

Use this PPT to introduce the advantages and disadvantages of technology. Start by seeing if students can work out if these are advantages or disadvantages of technology. Students then discuss in pairs how they (could have) worked out the English meaning, using the clues.

This worksheet allows lower ability pupils to practise German directions.

On the first slide, in line with the GCSE speaking photo card, pupils give sentences about the picture. This is an introduction to the topic of the advantages and disadvantages of social media. On the following slide, phrases have been taken from a text about social media. Students decide whether the statements are advantages or disadvantages. Students then use mini whiteboards to recap the vocab. To finish, students challenge each other for the next lesson. They all write a phrase from this lesson on a Post-It and stick it to the back wall. These are then randomly given out to the students as a starter in the following lesson to be translated.

This PPT introduces reflexive verbs in the perfect tense. At the end, pupils decide whether the phrases they see are in the past or present.

Consider introducing and using some of this vocabulary as early as possible with pupils. Of course, some of it is more suited to higher ability and A level students. This is a simple list of opinion phrases and their English translation.

Pupils work in teams. One person from Team A chooses a topic and a value. Click on the corresponding shape and this reveals a clue to the word or phrase that is the answer. If they get it correct, they get those points. If they get it wrong, it passes to the opposite team. Give them a time limit in which to answer. Clues could be, “this noun is masculine”, “this phrase is in the perfect tense”, etc.

Use this PPT to introduce the weather in French. To start, the weather is shown on a map of France. It is worth looking at the patterns of language used here (il y a / il). The patterns are colour-coded. Then the vocab is formally introduced. Following this, pupils must identify the weather in French as it whizzes past.

This wordsearch is designed to be used with a school-sized dictionary. Students look up the English Christmas words at the bottom of the sheet and find the French words in the wordsearch.

The text is on the topic of traditional food in Francophone countries and is aimed at KS3 or 4. In 2 teams, pupils choose a word to find in the text. The pupils don’t know what each word is worth. Click on the word they have chosen when they have correctly identified it in the text and their score will be revealed. The winning team is the team with the highest score once all words have been found in the text.

Pupils could stick this into their books for reference. It’s shows how to pronounce each letter in the French alphabet.

Pupils tick off each discussion phrase as they use them in conversation.
