Class dominoes is a great activity to keep the kids on their toes! Instructions are on the document. Simply enter the vocab you want the pupils to practise where indicated.

Instructions on how to edit this PPT are on the first slide. There are 3 slides, each with curtains set to open to reveal any set of words or images you choose. The curtains then are timed to automatically close after 10, 20 and 30 seconds. Great for working on memory in particular.

Give a paper copy of the first slide to each pair of students. They must fill in each rectangle with a word from a certain topic/listening/reading text, etc. Each of the pair has a different coloured pen and takes it in turns to fill in a word. The other pair must check they understand the word before they can fill it in. When this is complete, choose one of the grids on the following slides to show… Reveal each score one at a time by simply clicking – they will reveal one by one in order. Pupils check their total score for the corresponding words. They have the score shown only if they wrote a word in the corresponding box. The player with the highest total for their words is the winner!

Pupils work in pairs to produce a paragraph on any given topic. They take it in turns to roll the dice. The phrase corresponding to their number is the one they have to use. When they’ve completed it, they then learn it. Good practice for learning to learn! They must also check that the phrase makes sense. If it doesn’t (incorrect tense, etc.), they must roll again. It’s a good idea to print this off as well.

Use the space on each slide to enter the words/phrases you want pupils to memorise whilst they’re fading automatically. They could then either write them out or translate them either during the fade or after. Each slide takes 10, 20 and 30 seconds to fade out.

Using the template on the slides, show one sentence at a time on the board. At the end, type in the three boxes three possible answers, but make them obscure. Pupils vote on the ending they want (A, B or C). They then race to translate the sentence on their mini boards.

This activity is ideal for students to practise their speaking skills. Simply fill in the blank squares with a mini task to complete as they go around the board. Finally, fill in the topic area you would like them to talk about for a minute.

There are 2 different boards in this PPT. The first has 6 correct answers, the second has 8. Simply change the text in the boxes to facts/correct statements or false statements. Students then guess by clicking on the ones they think are correct. A tick reveals if correct and a cross if incorrect.

Taboo is a great and challenging activity to do with the pupils. Here are some examples. The word the other pupil(s) has/have to guess is in bold on each card and the person with that word has to describe it in French without mentioning the other words underneath.

My students LOVE Donate or Steal and this is an alternative version. There are other Donate or Steal templates available. Here, teams can choose to use one of their stars on the score for the opposite team. This can be used only on the opposite team’s total score, not the score they have just revealed. This has to be done straight after revealing the opposite team’s score. It can only be used once – click on the star to use it.

A bit like '20 Questions'. This is a list of questions in French that pupils ask to guess the word someone is think of. The person thinking of a word is allowed to answer only 'oui' or 'non'.

The text is using the imperfect tense to talk about where you used to live. Read the text to the class (or get them to read it). In 2 teams, they then choose one of the English words/phrases at the bottom and find the correct French equivalent in the text. If they are right, click on the English to reveal a random score for their team. A good way to make reading a bit more interesting and fun.

Print this writing wheel out for pupils to use when writing a simple short paragraph about where they live. Work from the centre outwards, using the extra phrases around the edge for extra information.

Pupils work in pairs to read the paragraph about rooms in the house. Each pupil has the same paragraph, but with gaps in different places. By reading to each other, they fill in the gaps in their own paragraph, promoting speaking, listening and transcription skills.

Use this PPT to introduce places in town in French. On the first slides, in two teams, students choose a square. Click on the square to reveal a part of the image underneath. Students decide to either guess the place in French or pass to the other team. If they guess correctly, they get a point. If they guess incorrectly, the other team get the point. This encourages students to use context and clues to work out the new vocab. Finish with a team game. Students choose a number and answer a question about places in town. If they guess correctly, click to reveal their score underneath.

Perfect practice for GCSE students and their speaking skills. A simple but effective board game, using counters and dice, practising talking about where you live. At different places on the board, students must, for example, talk about advantages and disadvantages, say where they would like to live in the future, etc.
