This lesson and supporting resources provide an extremely detailed account of how Politics and Music often work closely together and how artists, bands, and musicians have used their music to draw attention to important issues. Music’s influential power and its ability to communicate a message to the listener, means songwriters have turned to their craft when confronted with social and political unjustness throughout history. Composers have used it to highlight perceived inequities of the day and draw attention to important issues. This detailed lecture/presentation, along with all the learning resources would provide a great outline of music’s important role within different aspects of society and how people use music in daily life. The material in these resources would easily cover 4 to 5 lessons over roughly 3 or 4 weeks. The presentation covers the development and use of music throughout society with a total of 33 slides. Moreover, there are over 30 embedded videos throughout the lesson linking to YouTube and providing an excellent addition to the resource. This resource also comes with 5 classroom tasks and research exercises that can be completed alongside the lesson/presentation or used for additional homework or for supporting class projects on this subject. Each of these Tasks come in a “No Style”, black and white print out or an attractive, “Styled” version to help engage learners. Finally, there is the presentation in video format. This can be used to aid learning, shared with smartphones and tablets, and used as a convenient resource for learners to watch back and revisit the presentation. WARNING – Before you buy this resource PLEASE READ! Some of the musical examples many have offensive language within the lyrics. It is the teacher/lecturer’s responsibility to monitor and check before engaging with learners.
