This lesson is designed for teaching on the International GCSE specification or as an Unseen Poem as it both explores this poem and teaches students how to approach a previously unseen text. The activities are engaging, active and nurture enquiry in a supported way.

A tutor/end of term film quiz accessible for seccondary students of all ages/abilities - varied clues including audio and visual slides makes this a fun activity.

This assembly uses music, interesting facts about New Year, an inclusive ‘hands up’ activity and challenges students to adapt their approach to setting new year’s resolutions and instead aim to be more reflective and make changes all the time to ensure they achieve successes in their education, personal and emotional lives. This assembly draws on facts that traverse a range of cultures and is overtly linked to the SMSC agenda. This would be a perfect assembly to use as a first assembly back in 2020 and will save you thinking/planning time over the festive season.

This activity uses 'Fallen Puzzles' to engage students in a High Order Revision Activity, which is fun and challenging, but due to the nature of the High Order will support longer term retention of these quotations in preparation for the exam. This lesson leads KS5 students through a set of tasks that nurture independence of learning whilst facilitating a detailed knowledge of a range of dramatic devices used in this play.

This resource offers a step by step analysis of Jennings' poem, it is fully differentiated and includes a range of questions and activities to complete whilst learning about this text before concluding with some overarching 'big questions', an essay style question and self/peer assessment task. A study of Act 5 of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. This is designed for GCSE teaching and includes a range of activities to engage students. The lesson also includes slides on structural devices used within the play (as a key component to achieving a grade 5 or above) and whole text revision activities at the end of the powerpoint.

This Literacy Programme is 2 of 3 for use with year 7s across an entire term and forms part of a newly written programme that builds on the strengthened demands of the KS2 literacy skills. This resource includes a PDF version of the programme plus an Adobe version that is editable so that the name of your school/behaviour policy can be incorporated into the documents. The powerpoint presentation is used to test the weekly skills gained by your students and allows you to track progress and build in additional intervention for areas of shortfall post completion. The subsequent two booklets for use in this Programme will be posted imminently as will similar programmes for years 8 and 9.

This lesson draws on a wide variety of teaching strategies to engage and focus students with how to analyse poetry. These skills in turn can be used for analysing Unseen Poetry. This lesson is fully differentiated, from learning objectives, to tasks and to outcome plenary. This lesson should take between 2-3 hours to teach and includes a task that crosses over into Imaginative Writing for the Language Paper. I have taught this lesson a number of times and my students always enjoy the ‘finding the answer’ style of this lesson a lot of fun! This lesson is carefully scaffolded to ensure that students struggling to achieve a grade 5 are fully supported in their learning. Exemplar material is offered, regular reinforcement of learning and steady building of skills are all used to ensure all students are able to write a grade 5 speech, should this come up in the exams.

This quiz draws on famous film stars, royalty, pop stars, historical icons and inspirational sportsmen. It traverses the entire curriculum and my year 7s and 9s both absolutely loved playing this. Challenging but not too difficult.

This lesson teaches students the STILT(s) acronym for poetry comparison, this could be used to teach comparison skills as well as teaching specific comparison points on these two poems from the Edexcel Relationship Collection. The lesson is challenging and aims to take students grades to the top levels. It includes engaging 'thunks', activities, guidance, exemplar paragraphs and guided questions and processes that could be applied to other pairs of poems.
