Early Years - Reception Writing Template Genre - Instruction Writing How to play a triangle. Our topic was music/sound - ‘What’s that sound?’ Introduction We had a letter from Y2 asking us to teach them how to play a triangle. We played the triangle. We wrote instructions as a class on an A2 piece of sugar paper. 3 Differentiated worksheets Top group - write sentences independently - word mat to help with tricky spellings. Draw pictures of each step independently. Middle group - fill in the missing bossy verb (word mat included but you can add your own). Lower group - cut and stick the pictures and writing in order. They were able to order the numbers.

You will need to get 4 pots. Put 1 pasta shell in one, 2 in another, 3 in another and 4 in the last one. Label them a, b, c, d. The children will need to shake the pot and predict how many pasta shells there are in each pot. 2D Shape Scarecrow Early Years Maths / Numeracy I usually do this task in Autumn Term as part of our topic ‘Harvest’. Children need to cut out 2D shapes. Glue 2D shapes to make a scarecrow. Then children need to colour in a block diagram to show which / how many shapes they have used. I’ve included the Word document (editable) and a PDF copy.

Queen’s Jubilee We were learning about money. We linked it to the Queen’s Jubilee. The children need to match the value of the stamp to the correct postcard. e.g. Miss West’s stamp is 19p. Can you find 19p? Can you make 10p using coins? How many ways can you make 19p? We used this in the provision whilst learning about the Jubilee. Then we wrote our own postcards about what we enjoyed during the Jubilee celebration.

More and Less - Reception - Early Years Differentiated worksheets. Worksheet 1 Roll the dice. Then count the dots on the dice. Draw the dots in the middle box. Draw 1 more in the right box. Draw 1 less in the left box. Or write the correct numbers. To differentiate, children need to use 2 dice and add them together to find the total value. Then find 1 more and 1 less. Or use a foam dice and add your own numbers (e.g 2 -3 digit numbers). Worksheet 2 Find 1 more and 1 less using a number line.

Then colour in the splodge to show the colour of the material that they will use. Then they circle the materials that they will use. In the last box, they will draw and label their puppet.

Reception Report Writing We looked at the features of report writing. Then we read a report about chickens/chicks, including the life cycle of a chicken, as we had chicks in Nursery. Our topic was 'mini beasts', we we wrote a report about butterflies. We had caterpillars/butterflies in class. The children had observed the full life cycle of a butterfly. Year 1 - Theme of Superheroes. Read the story Supertato. DT project - design and make a Supertato. We used the TASC wheel to structure the project. Letter from the Evil Pea - I left ‘bad messages’ from the Evil Pea around the school. Whoever read these messages turned bad. My TAs were mixing up all of the toys, and sitting on the tables. The children were in shock at first! Then, someone decided to make posters that had good messages on them to turn everyone back good. We focused on what ‘good’ and ‘bad’ meant.
